I asked on a different thread, but wasn't answered. i have read that - after wire brushing and priming - 'coat with "silver". why silver, or is this slang for a particular product?

I wonder if they mean use POR-15 Silver? The silver has shards of metal that will fill any pin holes that rust will leave in the metal. But I haven't seen anyone use the term on here....

silver

hot rodders used it to bring out the flake in metal flake colors....only reason I've ever heard of it. hope your not using a metal flake paint on a cruiser. there's a 45 in miami for sale - candy apple red metal flake - need I say anything?

In the areas where it's inside the wheel wells or engine bay, i would wire brush or sand it to bare metal and prime it then paint it with a rustoleum silver.

are you talking about this?

This guys engine bay was painted silver, to me it's not that important to get the color match in there exact. Just make sure that the rust is gone and the bare metal is covered and well protected, so it wont rust on you again.

If you have rust somewhere outside on your paint, you hae a more envolved repair if you want to match the paint exactly.v
