Hello All,
I'm making a list of needed repairs for my new to me HZJ73 and I think number 1 currently is one of the side view mirrors is wobbling around. They are electric and one of the directions works fine but the other is non-existent. If you push on it is very loose and clearly disconnected. Does anyone have pictures of behind the mirror so I can tell if something is supposed to snap back in? TIA.

Hello,

Chances are someone messed with the mount. The mirror is attached to the base with a metal ring that breaks rather easily. It is common practice to keep the mirror in place using one or two bolts, without much regard for the thread type. In time, the bolt loosens and the mirror becomes wobbly.

Pictures from a broken mirror I have at hand.

This is where the retaining ring goes. There should be a lip where the finger is. When this mirror broke, the ring cut (and broke) the lip.

These screws keep the mirror in place. It is customary to force a big bolt here to keep the mirror in place. The bolt may prevent the mirror from falling but makes it wobbly. Body rattling eventually loosens the bolt.

As for mirror movement, two small motors control movement. They connect to the mirror with a small shaft that has a ball joint on one end. It is likely that the joint is loose or broken.

This is how the motors look like. A shaft and its rubber cap in the center and right, respectively.

This is one of the shafts. It has a rubber cap.

If the retaining ring is broken, there is not much one can do.

You may want to get a new mirror. Part number is 87910-60460.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Juan, that's perfect. To be more exact the mirror portion itself is the one that is loose and not the whole mount. This gives me a bit more confidence to figure out the issue. I assume I can just pull the mirror straight off?
