Hey all,
Looking for good MANUAL replacements for the stock electric mirrors and stereo antenna. Something that will fold under impact. Any good stereo antennas that have maybe a spring?
I wiped mine out in death valley a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks,

Chicago

anyone?

Not a lot of help here and no real 'off-road' testing done but I pushed it around a little and it seems pretty sturdy and the spring is very flexible. This one was on the truck when I bought it, but hopefully the picture will be helpful.

I have a pair of OEM FJ62 Manual mirrors on my FJ60. They fold back against the door if you hit something, but haven't hit anything hard enough to know just how rugged they are.

Thanks for the response gents...I was beginning to think I smelled bad or something:crybaby: .
So it looks to me like the manual OEM side mirrors will work in lieu of the electric?! Is this correct? I wasnt sure if there was an aftermarket SM I could use that works pretty well.
Antennas...Are they all pretty universal?
I nailed a pinion pine limb on a washed out narrow trail... OF COURSE, the screws were siezed, so I had to cut the wires, cuz I didnt want that thing FLOPPING around.

post jpg of mirror problem so we can see how bad it is... as a temp fix on my 80 i added some clear silicone to it once i had it in place... while i had the silicone out i also permanently adjusted and set mirrors. got tired of them vibrating. just put a couple of small beads in the corners. readjustment after the silicone is easy - move the seat.

what about the Aussie mirrors? I've seen the black large ones around.

Did read that the setup put the Aussied pasenger side, "objects seems closer" mirror on the drivers side of US rigs. Dunno about that either. ANy experience?

Here's a shot of the mirror. The antenna was completely wiped out, but I dont have a pic of it. There's just a little stub sticking up, with a bit of the plastic remaining.
I saw the aussie mirrors on either MAF's or Cruiser Outfitters (I forget which one) they were pretty spendy I think...like 130 bucks a piece   .

I have used the short (16"?) rubber antennae on both my 40 and my 55. The 40 takes way more abuse than the 55 ever did and I have never had a durability or reception problem.

I may put one on the 60 just for the sake of sameness.

The fj62 manual mirror bolts right up to the 60 and 62 doors.

there oughta be plenty out there

if i had the electric i think i would go stock... on my 60 i have aussie style and am not 100% pleased with the view i get in the mirrors.

i would try some of the junk yards or auto parts 'recyclers' and you could also put a request at this site:

http://www.usedpartscentral.com/cgi-bin/requester/requester.cgi

it is a computer search that is sent out to subscribing junkyards if you need a part. they can find anything... but you might want to have your 'body shop buddy' do the search for you. like bob's auto body or something like that to have a better chance for a reply.

Thanks for the input gents. I saw the plastic factory manuals somewhere for 51 bucks a piece. Sounds to me like that is my best bet.
Im pretty surprised that the electric SM's wouldnt give, and insted just broke off. Most everything else stock on these rigs are pretty "bullet proof"
Also, seems that the rubber antennas are the ticket.
One more question...Once I switch over to the manuals, should I pull the motor units for them? I mean, if Im not going to be using them any more, I may as well ditch em ,right ,and free up the two switches for soemthing else....Will this effect anything?

After years of wanting some of the Aussie convex mirrors for my 60, I picked up some JDM 60 wide angle convex mirrors from a LCML lister. They looked great, bolted right up, and gave a great field of view.... as long as I was in the passenger seat of my LHD 60. As one would expect, seems that the "null" position of the JDM mirrors (and I assume any original RHD vehicle mirrors) is set for optimum viewing from the right hand seat (duh...). Anyway, as a result, I cant pull in the right hand mirror in far enough, and cant push out the left hand mirror far enough for optimum field of view when in the LHD position. Obvious now, but it completely escaped me up until the point I installed them. Is anyone aware of any convex, wide-angle mirrors that came stock on any LHD 60s or 62s??
