What's Up Mud?

The passenger side mirror on my 2013 has gone rogue. Whenever I start the truck the mirror spins all the way forward and I manually have to pull it back into place. I've tried 'resetting' it, but can't get it to work. I've done some looking around and it appears to be a bad actuator/motor assembly.

The two common options are to either replace the whole unit (~$900), or buy a replacement actuator unit and do a rebuild. Neither of these seem particularly good. The rebuild looks like a huge PITA and $900 is a lot of money for a mirror, even though it does some fancy stuff.

So- my question today is has anyone had luck with aftermarket assemblies? Any specific recommendations? I use OEM Toyota parts as a general rule, but could be convinced otherwise for a non-critical part like this.

Thanks!
Jay

Oof sorry to hear. I had my driver side go wonky. I looked at replacing the actuator but that got dicey. Ended up just replacing the whole mirror. (Hella expensive) And killing my battery lol (cuz I think I left the ignition on rolling the window down)

Not ideal but might be worth trying to find one at a junkyard? $900 is a lot and you might just get lucky to find one that matches and works. I’m sure it’ll be like finding a needle in a haystack but at least wanted to mention it!
