Side emblems

So, I just got the 62 painted and am in the process of putting all of the emblems/stuff back on. One of the side "Toyota Land Cruiser" emblems is missing almost all of the little mounting rivets in the body. They are only about a buck a piece from specter, but I'm wondering if that's the route I should go. Am I asking for more rust by using the rivets again? Should I fill the holes and use double-sided tape or epoxy? However, then I won't be able to take them off in the future. Suggestions?

You can still remove them if you use double sided trim tape. I removed all trim from my old truck (dodge). Paint looked great under the tape (better than the rest of the body). I think I used 3M glue remover or somthing like that.

you can just saw it off with a piece of dental floss and a hair dryer - then clean with an adhesive remover as hightide said.

Update: so, I used some tough double-sided tape meant for outdoors. I'm not sure what brand, I work at a Museum and got it from our exhibits department. I was concerned the tape would be too thick but once I pressed it firmly it conformed to the inside of the symbol and looks like a nice fit.

body shop will give you the right stuff

go to your local friendly privately owned paint & body shop and you can prolly talk them out of enuf of the right stuff to do the job. if you are lucky the guy will trim it with a razor blade behind the letters... i use double stick tape in the sign trade and the correct kind costs me over $50 / roll wholesale.

might be able to get smaller amounts at pep boys or auto zone. it will be very dense and brown or black in color... do not use the white soft foam tape as it will hold water... what you want is called 3M VHB (very high bonding) Double Stick Tape. they actually use the stuff to hold aluminum panels together on buses instead of rivets, so i guess it will work.
