Well, I snuck away from work this week to do our annual family trip to bass lake at our friends lake house. I usually bring my mountain bike and do a local downhill trail called 007. It is halfway up the mountain on the way to Shuteye Peak where there is a fire lookout tower. Well this year with a LX450, I couldn't resist the chance to do the whole trip to the top with the family. What an awesome trip it was. I was really excited to get this rig offroad for the first time since I put the new springs and shocks on....what a difference. I got some really good pics and will post them as soon as I get back home. BTW, if anyone is ever up here in the Yosemite area, I highly recommend this trail.....the views and scenery are amazing.

Here are some of the shots but they don't do justice for the awesome scenery

That is absolutely incredible. Thanks for posting those pics.

These pictures are just the last 2 miles of the trail....the first 17 miles is all fire road starting off in the scrub and oak then venturing into the pines. There are a couple of creek crossings to add to the fun but at this time of year the water is minimal. There are campgrounds on the way up this trail with fishing, mountain biking, ect. If I didn't have a nice place to stay on Bass Lake, I would be camping up there for sure. Glad I could share the pics.

nice pictures for sure! very nice view of the lake.

Awesome place. We were at that one, and another one about 20 miles away, a few years back. The lookout people were very happy to have some visitors. There were about 12 LandCruisers that descended (ascended?) upon them, I guess it breaks up their monotony.

The views are incomparable.

There are some really cool places around that area.

Next time you're up in that area, look for Hites Cove and take the drive down to the end, you'll be glad you did.

I wish I lived up there.....

Wow, I may want to head up there for memorial...

Do you have any pics of the fishing you're talking about along the trail? Is it close to a place to camp? Fly fishing friendly? I'd like to go but before I do I just want to make sure I bring all the right stuff...Thanks!

Although I did not fish there, I stopped and hiked the Sand Creek for a ways and spotted plenty of trout. It is right next to Whiskers campground.

Link to Whiskers campground (more popular with anglers):

There are more campgrounds as well as more trails in the area. I wish I had more time when I was there to explore.

I purchased this book, California Trails - High Sierra Region. Pages 90-102 cover the area well.
