Synopsis.... Help a member of the month.

A member posts up a need (within reason), not like, I need a million dollars
If that members need is picked for the month- the club does what it can to accomodate the need.

Examples, Jimmy needed a tranny installed, Travis installed a lift, etc.

Should we do something like this? Indiana is larger than South Carolina, I think, so it might involve more driving for guys like me from way North and other guys way south like Nick.

Just a thought. Luke

I like the idea. I'd rather see it be quarterly though, monthly is a little often. As you said, IN is bigger than SC, which means more gas $ to get to members places.

I've been fond of the idea of expanding our winter tech session, this sounds like a good way to do that.

I like your idea of quarterly. Monthly seems out of reach for me at least. Maybe try to keep them centered around Indy area, with an occasional North or South event.

Anyone else have input?

I like this idea.

Quarterly is best.
The only thing I'd like to see if that the duration of the task and the time available equal each other. So that when you're headed back home, you can say the task is completed.

Anyone else agree?

This sounds like a terrific idea. I always love to be around cruisers and their owners, but I don't really get enough chances to go to the club wheeling events.

Some just don't have the money nor the time to bash up their DD on a regular basis  I can't be without my truck.

The winter tech session is great. It would be nice to have a quarterly tech session.

I like the idea of being able to focus on fewer projects per tech session so that the job gets done thoroughly to the end. This also affords the on-lookers a chance to better learn something.

I'm game.

I like that idea, we need more tech sessions. Okay I'll be first on the wish list, I need $999,999, sorry couldn't resist.

Like the idea of expanding tech sessions and also helping each other out. It is great to get together. I will put my need out there for consideration...an engine swap for the 40.

I KNOW this can be done in a day: but a fairly long day! With a dozen sets of hands (coming and going on the project during the day) it can happen. You won't be driving at the end of the day but the motors will be swapped. I, along with a group of Cruiserheads in Columbus, OH did this for/with a Cruiserhead from Cincinnati. Gathered in a driveway in CBus and started in. We (myself, the owner and his 40) arrived at 10am. By 10:30pm that night we were loaded up and headed back to Cincinnati with the majority of the work done.

In short, I'm up for quarterly work days. Can bring tools and skills.

I could have much of the prep work done and be pretty much ready to pull the engine at the start of the day. Radiator out, bib and fenders off, etc. It is desmogged so that would make it easier too. I've got the picker and two engine stands. Any other ideas on how to make something like this work?

Yes I think this is a great idea. I have gone to our tech sessions in the past and seen something done and this has given me the confidence to come home and do it my self. I think we would be amazed at what we could get done in day working together.
I imagine we all have things we want to do to our rigs but may be a little leary of jumping into it alone. Myself alone I've had a scout box in the garage for over a year, I have a SM420 and adapter plate, and many other plans. But keep puting them off for one reason or another, this could be a chance for each of us to finaly get some of these things done with the help and know how there to get us through.
It would also be a chance for some of our members that don't have the urge or the rig set up for wheeling to come and join in the fun.

Hey guys, it's Travis. I asked Woody to change my Mud name to make it less confusing with PHAEDRUS (for those of you into 80 tech :flipoff2: )

I love this idea too. I'm still new to Cruisers and always willing to learn some more. I tore into my rear axle last weekend and it was easier than I thought. Largely because of the tech session in January and watching RJ replace a busted birfield down in Kentucky back in July. Kinda like Mark said, for those of us still learning how to wrench on our own vehicles, watching guys who know what they're doing first really just gives you the confidence to try it solo.

My take on it: the location doesn't matter so much if it's planned out in advance. I think the project itself will be the draw depending on your own projects you have lined up. If you know ahead of time we're installing a new tranny in Indy in January and a lift in Elkhart in April, it's easier to make the one you want to even if its a further distance. You figure out who's interested, what weekend works best, etc, instead of just setting the weekend and figuring out who shows up. Not saying we have to plan that far ahead, but once we know what people want to do we can schedule more accomodating dates and locations based on who's interested.

I am still waiting on mine but I would like doing this and helping each other so lets do it.

Leave the fenders on. Have the fluids drained. Pull the battery and tray/tray support. Provide/organize some food and plenty of drinks (or make sure others will be bringing something). Helps to have a paved driveway but that can be worked around. Shouldn't need engine stands (most parts store stands aren't stout enough for a 2F anyway). Have the other motor prepped to go back in (new seals, fresh flywheel/clutch installed, paint block if desired, intake/exhaust manifolds installed, etc). Some of this can be done day of the swap but can slow things down.

So when is the first project gonna happen? :D

There were also a couple of cruiserheads from the Akron area that turned a wrench or two as well that day, IIRC. It was very dark when I left Cbus that night...

:flipoff2:

Do you all mind if some loser OH folks stop by as well (if work schedule allows)?

I've got a power steering box that needs some TLC...

;)

PS: Travis--dig the new avatar by the way and the new name.

We'll take all the Ohio losers we can get!!

I support cruiser wrenching!

Hey guys

Sounds like a great Idea. This would also be a good thing in the winter where people have heated spaces to work on project vehicles. So far I have been unable to get to any events because of timing and this may help me out. So far all I do is work on cruisers and never wheel them anyway. I will watch for projects.

Keep safe and keep on tooling.

Oh boy and that engine is running good.....Anyway I owe a little back and would be willing to make the drive if I can get away from the family. So we'll see what weekend you guys end up doing this and I'll drive up for the day if possible. We started on mine with no previous prep. The only thing I wish I would have done...Buy an H41 tranny and install it at the same time.
