if there is a possibility of rust showing back up? I bought my 40 with a fresh paint job but I don't trust the PO word saying I will never see rust come through again. I want to Line-X the truck but what happens if rust starts to spread under the Line-X? I won't know it.

I would Rhino Line it. I wasn't very happy with Line-X on my 45 frame I haven't even drove it and the stuff almost peels on the sharp corners. So my 40 frame and under body is going to get Rhino and so is the 45 underbody.

Alot of liner shops don't do their prep very well, and most customers do not notice but it is wrong. I would sand it yourself and take it to them and they would do a decent job. Any product would be fine, arma coating, linex or whatever its just the prep to make sure is done. Its really amazing how they skip over the most important detail at times, you just have to be a paint in their ass until its done write...:D

But what about the possible rust issue?

They sand blasted my frame and used there own paint so I'm sure prep was complete. If they sand blast the area or you sand it the metal should not rust. Unless you have a bondo wagon and everything is hidden underneath and in a few years large chunks fall out.

speed line

i did mine and i was happy underside and inside. its all the same you need to prep right. texure is from air pressure

I guess I would need to sand the inside down to bare metal to see if there is any rust. Is it OK to Line-X bare metal or should it be primed?

they us a special primer for it. They will spray it.

you mean if they sand blast it clean ( no more rust) and coat it with some primer or paint. I would never put bed liner straight over bare metal.

yes, prime it or put some rust inhibiting paint over the bare metal. Yea I think your right, if your bed liner is going to be permanent then i would make sure you have no rust on your baby before you line it.

blast
repare rust
prime
sand- or imediatly shoot liner
if you sand 80 grit should do fine.

good luck man

Line X has there own primer that they used on my frame after they sand blasted it. They didn't shoot on to bare metal. it might work better on a body than on the frame i don't know for sure but its going to be Rhino for me on my other frame and both bodies.

You can see the frame after it was done in the build up thread in the link in my sig.

I didn't know Line-x has their own primer before they apply their bedliner, thats great!

Well they put some on my frame. I don't know if they use it before hand on beds.

Well since you're covering it up anyways...I would sand down the parts that will get coated and inspect them before hand. That way if there is anything that needs attention, you can do it BEFORE it turns into a rust bucket.

yes, make sure all the rust is gone. then coat both sides of the metal. I repaired the rust over the wheel wells on my 60, then primered, then sprayed the outside, then the inside fo the wheel wells, to make sure I was cutting off as much oxygen as possible. 2 years, no rust poking through yet.

Oh yea, I used herculiner, sprayed it myself. It could have been done better, but not for nearly as cheap. I bought the compressor, the approrpriate gun, and the herculiner for much less then the line-x shop quoted me.
