I just finished my radiator swap on my '00 4runner as an attempt to get ahead of the dread strawberry milkshake. Last night I thoroughly flushed the cooling system with only distilled water. I have been topping off the system with green so my coolant was now red/brown. YUCK! Kept at it last night until it basically came out clear.
This morning I did the actual swap out. After finishing and filling with the lisle funnel I noticed as I was burping the system that there were a few droplets of oil that bubbled up. Very small pin sized droplets. I'd say maybe 5 or so. The truck idled maybe 5-10mins with both heaters on. Temp gauge was right below the middle where it always is. Top hose and top end tank was getting warm. Lower hose and lower end tank was still cool. No leaks on any of the hoses and no more bubbles were coming out so I shut her down and let her cool. Went to mow the lawn, just as i started the stupid deck belt snaps so I spent another 30mins putting that in and smashing my thumb in the process
. After 2hrs or so I come back and the system is pretty cool so I button everything up and will go run some errands with her later today.
Should I be concerned about those few droplets of oil? I will definitely keep an eye on it. Is my head gasket going next? or maybe the oil is something residual from the koyo radiator? Or maybe my dirty hands messing with the hoses left a trace amount of oil in it. During my flushing last night I did not see any traces of oil in the funnel. I did see some small black rubber pieces bubble up last night. Not sure what it was, maybe hose material?? but they kept showing up and there is still a trace amount in the system but way less. I did the same procedure, drain, fill, burp, cool.. repeat... anyways I'm a little worried about it which is why i posted up.
