Should an 04 LC have a low fuel light?

That picture is of a cars test stage at start up... With LOW fuel. The light is just on, not testing. I just went out to my 04 and put the keys in to check. My fuel light works fine when I'm low on fuel. It does NOT check with the rest of bulbs. I'm sure you're fine. My low fuel light comes on at 17 miles cruising range on computer also. Which means I have 5 gallons left. I don't trust my gauge or my computer. I trust the fact that I have a 25.4 gallon tank on a truck that gets 14 mpg. I fill up at 300 miles.

Thanks TwiceWithHair. That is surprising that not all bulbs are in self test. Anyone know why that should be?

I don't KNOW, but I THINK it's just testing the bulbs on your "oh s***, somethings not right" indicators. High beam, turn signals, low fuel aren't emergency indicators in my mind. Maybe that's the way Mr.Toyota was thinking as well.

Mine comes on depressingly soon after a fill-up. :crybaby:

both the 80 and 100 have very generous reserves (as in after the light comes on), IIRC. About 5 gals for both if memory serves well. 50+ miles for most. Not bad.
So I don't hesitate to go for a bit more after the light comes on. But I don't want to go too low either as I'd rather not suck gunk up the lines.

and yes, there is a quirk of sorts with the computer range. I forgot what exactly, but I noticed it a while back. May have been that the range is not taking the reserve into account.

I haven't had the pump out of my 100 yet to see the design but sucking gunk in the lines is not generally an issue due to the screen in the tank. Also fuel is always sucked from the bottom of the tank anyway. The biggest issue with running to low on fuel is that as the fuel sloshes while turning the pump runs dry and causes damage to the pump. Pumps don't like to run long with no lubrication.
