I have 1.5 in. of lift in rear and 1 in in front from shackles. I plan to do an add a leaf in the summer. I think that will put me around 2 to 3 in. of lift. Do stock size shocks still work?

Stockers look like they came with the truck. Im just trying to find out what size I need to buy when I replace.

2 or 3 inches of lift puts you right in the range of most common off the shelf suspensions for our rigs, so that means you have lots of options. You can consider old man emu (pricey but i dont think anyone doesnt like them), Rough Country (thats what i have, stiff but i like the control, and way cheap), or any of the many other manufacturors. Just call around and ask vendors what they run on their 2 1/2 suspensions, thats pretty much what youre looking at. You wouldnt want to run the stockers in my opinion, if they wont extend long enough at full droop your talking big bucks to replace shock mounts etc.

I think im going with ome shocks. prolly have to buy 2 at a time, they are a little over my allowed cruiser budget. rigth now i just have a 1 in lift up front and 1.5 in the rear. do you think my shock mounts are safe?

thanks all for yor input.

I wheeled my truck with stock shocks and 2 inch shackles up front, 1 inch in the back with no problems. Just jack up the truck, support it under the frame, and see if it droops all the way without the shocks bottoming out. No other way to really say.

get your lift on then drive down the road find a good ditch and flex it out measure then order shocks that fit what measurements you have. (You can drive without shocks for a few days until the new ones get to you.)

Do it right the first time.

What Agent orange told you to do will not work, you need to go really flex it out. Not just jack , etc. You wont be able to get full travel with a jack.

89s, are you saying that the side under extension droops further when the suspension is fully flexed than full droop with no weight on the axle ie hanging free? I suppose that makes sense, just never really thought about it. I wasnt saying to jack up one side to make it articulate, i was saying that you could tell whether the shocks were limiting droop by seeing if the axle was prevented from dropping all the way by a shock that was too short. Thanks for correcting me though, id hate to screw someone up.

I have not really looked around or done a search on where to buy, anyone have any suggestions?

agent,
Yeah the flexing can be diff with weight and without, and most jacks wont go high enough to safely do that anyways.

hightide,
I ordered mine from Summit Racing.

I did have to modify my front mount and bushings for these to work, but it was/is not a big deal.

Kurt @ cruiser outfitters is a great guy and will be getting my buisness next time I need to order a few things. I have heard nothing but great things about him.
