Just bought a 94 xtra cab pickup – Looking for shock recommendations – still has the original at shocks at 80K and they are a bit bouncy. Would like to go with something that’s general-purpose – it’s my daily drive but I do like off-road fun.

Thanks
Mike

Rancho's and any other oil-based shock will bring the suck. PolyPerformance BBCS are a great shock. Bilsteins are my personal favorite. I've used Pro-Comp, many ranchos and others... nothing beats a gas charaged shock.

Just my personal opinion, but I would not spend high dollars i.e. rancho or Bilsteins on a Toyota truck. Buy some Monroes and be done with it-they are gas charged as well and will make a difference in your ride.

The Toyota truck is light to begin with so unless you are load bearing all of the time, a high end shock seems a bit overkill.

Just my opinion

When I got my '91 22RE 4wd reg cab p/u 5 years ago(with 140K miles), it needed new shocks. First I got procomp 3000's all around, they were fine in back but bottomed out to easily in the front. Tried Rancho 5000's in the front, still lame(and with an unnecessarily harsh ride). Then tried Bilsteins in front...definitely better, I stopped experimenting at that point. 5 years later, they're still fine. The torsion bars seemed to need a stiffer shock, I guess because the T-bar suspension has inherently less "self-damping" than leaf springs. I like it better when the same type of suspension is used both front and rear, but that's becoming less common. It would have been nice if they had made the T-bar IFS match the rear leaves a little better, IMO.

Bilsteins. ProComps super suck, I destroyed a set after one trail run. Bilstein makes different models- you don't have to run the super still ones.

Thanks for the recommendations.

I’ve done the Rancho and Monroes on a FJ40 and the Monroes on a 85 Pickup and was generally satisfied with the Monroes. I feel that the low end Rancho are overrated ( My opinion ). A local FWD shop had some procomps ( ES9K ) for a reasonable price ( cheaper or at the same cost as the Monroes ) I figured I would give em a try ( never tried em before ) and see how it works.

Again, thanks for the recommendations

G'luck.

IIRC, ES3K's are identical to RS5K's... I'd have to dig up the documentation, so take it w/ a grain of salt.
