I recently picked up a used OME 2.5 lift and I'm not sure on the shock condition. The previous owner (IH8mud member) assured me the shocks and springs rode well. The shocks seem awful soft and easy to push in by hand. Can someone much smarter than me look at them and tell me they aren't worn out before I install them? I travel between Winston-Salem and Burlington all the time for work. I can bring them to you to test....just need someone to look at them. I'm not sure how soft the OME are supposed to be

Thanks!

Yes, really easy

OME light capacity lift springs would be easier to compress than medium and heavy duty springs. Do you have any reason to believe that the prior owner pulled a fast one on you?

I don't think he would as he is a well known guy on here. The springs are medium rates. The shocks are just so easy it seems weird.

My bad, I read that the springs felt soft, not the shocks.

Do the shocks rebound? Meaning if you compress them, do they automatically extend? If they do, then they're fine.

Yes they do extend/rebound but it takes about 2 minutes to completely rebound/extend fully

Thank you Sir. What had me worried was a toddler could probably compress them easily and it was freaking me out lol.

You should be able to compress by hand, worse case using body weight. The shock valving controls the speed of the movement (in/out) of the shock, to absorb the spring compression. If you can move them up and down by hand, quickly, the valving may be shot and it won't dampen the springs.
A visual is probably the best explanation, like this:

Thanks for the video. My shocks aren't like the ones on the video. I could probably compress them with two fingers but they go back up no problem on their on just slowly. Once fully expanded they don't fall or move. I feel resistance as well. I will try to post a video if I can figure out how.

I think they're good. I do have a video but can't figure out how to post it?

They shouldn't be super easy to compress by hand but if they rebound they are still working at least. The OME shock on my hundred was not easy to compress back into position when I was doing a new lower control arm on my 100 a few weeks back.

The valving is different between those two and I do remember my 80 shocks being easier to compress overall but not two finger easy.

Do you have a facebook or youtube account... post it up there and then link it to a post here through the media picture option. It is in the drop down menu right next to the smiley face when you are making a post.

If you don't have a youtube or facebook account or any account you can post to and then link PM me and i'll give you my email and do it for you.

Thank you. I will try it and see if I can get it to work. I can press it with two fingers but I do have to apply a lot of pressure. Can I email the video to you for your opinion?

They look fine, it most likely has lost some over time but it is still rebounding. Rebound speed depends on your shock settings anyway.
You also seem to be putting considerable power down on the shock when you are compressing it so, while they are obviously used and may not be what they were when new they seem find to run from this video.

Thanks! I haven't cleaned them up yet but I will be installing them with OME 2.5 medium springs.

My current stock shocks have 250k on them so the OME are probably better at this point lol

Thank you!
