Recently had the Toyota dealer put in a new starter in my 98 100. I believe it was a rebuilt because NOS starters are basically non existent. Everything was good for 2 months. Yesterday went out to start and nothing. Everything worked fine when I drove it on Sunday. Turn the key, lights light up, but the starter doesn't do anything. What do you think? Bad starter after 60 days? Something else? Jut looking for some ideas before I start troubleshooting tonight.

I think it would be very rare to have a bad starter after 60 days. Usually if they are bad, it shows right away. And usually you get a click. Lights indicate that battery connection is not a problem. I'd look for some cut out switch like on the tranny. Has to be in neutral to start, maybe that sensor.

How long have you had your battery? Check the battery post. I recently had that issue where everything was fine and then just one start, it wouldn't start. Put a new battery in it, wouldn't start. The tech at the battery store took time and cleaned the terminals thoroughly and it started. A week later it did it again. I took it to the mechanic thinking it's a starter, but turned out that terminals were starting to fill up with white stuff again. The mechanic cleaned it fully, coated it, put anti corrosive rings (I think that's what they were) and put it all back together again. I haven't had any issues since then.

The battery is a brand new Toyota Truestart. I will check the connections / cables though as something could have come loose.

So it appears to be something with the automatic transmission shift lever. If it won't start, I pull and push the transmission lever (while still officially in Park) and the truck will start. It seems to be intermittent. Could something like the shift lock override switch impact this? If so, how easy is it to replace.

I would guess after 310k miles something could have worn out.

Once you truck leaves the factory, the only starter you can get for a petrol truck will be re manufactured.

No such thing as a NOS new OEM starter...

(Except 1HZ and other iteration diesels that have no reman starter and only new OEM).

So the past two days I've been having a no start issue in the mornings. Checked the things in this and other threads and I can't seem to find any solid resolutions. All electronics are working. Turn the key, nothing, no starter sound, silence. Truck started after about a half hour yesterday without any apparent input from me. Drove, started and stopped several times throughout the day with zero issues. Good fuel delivery, strong start, business as usual. My wife texted me this morning stating that it did the same thing to her today, As of now it's dead in the water. Going to have her try it again in an hour or two. Edit: Truck started without issue at 1:00pm.

Did the following.

Check a loose battery cable.

Done

Try starting it in Neutral. Might be the same issue I had with the park sensor

Done (and t-case too).

How long have you had your battery?

Running dual DHPs with IBS DBS. Good voltage and displays working properly.

I also disconnected the negative on both batteries for a good 30 minutes.....nothing. I have not sprayed fuse contacts with cleaner yet, but the symptoms are different than the other thread.

Ideas? Anyone have a similar scenario?

I had my last purchased rebuilt starter rebuilt again by a local shop I trust prior to installing. He told me the my new rebuilt starter wasn't rebuilt very well - can't recall the details he told me. He said he sees this all too often.
