Hey guys

I already installed the Badlands Apex 12K in my Dissent and as you might know the control box doesn't fit. My idea was to install the electronics behind the passenger side headlamps using a DIY/ redneck style bracket and by putting the electronics into a kind of sealed box.

couldn't find a suitable box at Home Depot, ACE Hardware and similar, but just found this box, specifically 3D printed for the Apex electronics.

Any thoughts and/ or experience on this video?

I transfered the electronics to my Badlands Apex 12k to an allegedly abs sealed box I bought from Amazon. Like you, I mounted the box on the passenger side behind the headlamp using a stainless steel bracket. After its first summer, I noticed the box started to deform from I'm guessing the combination of summer and engine heat. So based on my experience, I have my doubts that a 3D ABS box will do any better. If do you go that route, please let us know how well it survives.

SuperfastMatt on youtube just did a really good video covering some modern 3D printers and some of the new fiber-filled filaments he's been using (printing parts for a land speed car) which makes me wonder if this would be a problem easily solved by printing something similar out of a different material... part of me wants to use the money I've been saving for a roof rack and RTT and start playing with 3d printers instead.

edit: PPA-CF is the specific higher-heat enhanced-strength material I couldn't remember.

the technology in general works. At work we've been doing trials with customers and our materials for gears and similar for automotive parts. Main part is essentially choice of material and that comes with a price tag...

I'm currently a little bit afraid that this specific box is too small. Not sure how warm the electronics get when under load and what happens then... a little bit more room would likely be nice... for now I ordered a 6"x6"x3.5" box. just fits the space between headlamp and air filter. $10 trials to see how things go, mock up a kind of holder for the box and so on...and to at least get the winch running ^^
then going from there.

I can’t comment on the above listed box, but I rewired my Apex control box into an old Ramsey control box and placed it behind the passenger side headlight. Relative simple overall. I made a bracket out of a galvanized L bracket I found at Home Depot.

In case you got any pictures I'd appreciate it. Just to get ideas about the brackets, how to "seal" the cable exits, ...
