Yup I'm in. IF you are for sure taking the girls, I'll throw Connor in with your rig and carry the tools. Thisshould be interesting. Are we sure kids will want to go for this long?

when i was very young i lived in eastern montana. my father would throw me and my little brother and baby sister on the back of a mule and take us with our grandparents and some friends high into the mountains of western montana for a week at a time. we would take trails into the mountains that no buggy could follow. it was so much fun

this 80 will have to do. im not feeding horses or training asses

great. ill be sure to have the nail polish ready. my girls are 3,5,7 years old. all 3 will be there. my wife is going to go too. this is the first campout she has come on in years. i need to do it right if there is to be a repeat attendance by my wife.

in preperation i called slee yesterday and ordered a roof rack and some 4" lift heavy springs to replace the lightweight j springs i run now. I almost baught one of those engel fridges but i dont know if there will be room for that. as of right now my truck is using the entire 2nd row of seats and i put one of the 3rd row seats back in.

this weekend im going to make a tire carrier for the back of my truck to carry the 42" spare so i can get it out of my truck.

iam in too i will have my 2 girls too with me more than likely. we might stay til sunday but it should be fun.

I will have Conner with me. I am bringing the big family tent so that he is more comfortable on a cot. My northface bckpack tent will be too small. I'll have to have Connor ride in bck seat with some light gear next to him, my dog in the front seat and my roof rack will be on with gear. Just got ot keep weight low.

by the time im loaded for this trip my 80 will be well on its way to 8000 lbs

i spoke to justin yesterday-hes the guy with the 80 that did the snow run on new years. he is going too along with his wife and 3 kids. (ages 10,7,4)

have you spoken with te ranger yet?

I may tag along if you guys don't mind. I'm having 4.88 gears put in and would like to try them out.
If my 17 year old daughter does not have to work I will bring her, she like young ones.

How would you rate the difficulty?

I'd bring the 80 and not the Scout! I get nervous just driving the Scout on a freeway let alone a trail.
The 80 has 35's, lockers, 3" lift. I'm not really worried about the ability of the 80, it's the driver that worries me!

I have 3 more rigs coming. One guy was on ultimate adventure with 4 wheel drive mag, and another 2 SWB Broncos.

spoke with prather ranger station this am. swamp lake still not open. it needs another eval and may get opened after this weekend in time for next but no guarantee.

But red mtn mirror/straberry and the other lakes in that series are open and if nothing else that will be the run. Swamp may not be an option. are you guys really up for swamp anyway? Dan do you think your 40 can make the swamp trail? you may need to take your new fj Cruiser and break it in on mirror lake.

From what I can tell, Swamp will not be a sure thing. Coyote et al. is open so we can focus there. As for my 40 making it, see my signature . . . SUCK IT!

west lake, coyote etc it is then. we should plan on making it to swamp lake for camp next friday night. Lets plan to meet at my cabin at 3pm next friday. the trail head is about 25 min from there heading up towards huntington. if we get to the trail head by 4pm we should be setting up camp by 530-6pm at west lake. my dad has a kayak i may be able to fit on the roof

We will save swamp for another day. (i may do the swamp trail july 4 weekend)

OK I have the route on USGS maps and have put in GPS way points for each turn and location. I figure this will be the best route with optional areas to go to. I prefer fishing streams over lakes, so we can do either one this way. We are meeting between 2/3pm at Dustin’s Cabin and on the road by 4PM. This should (should) give us enough daylight to get to Coyote Lake. If not, with the map, GPS, and good rock lights, we can make it there just fine in the dark.

Friday Night: Head in from 168 to Red lake / Coyote Lake for the first night. Exit 37-11.030N/-119-12.329W We have an option to go into Strawberry lake if we choose instead then back track back to Coyote lake Saturday to get us back on the loop.

Saturday, leave Red/Coyote Lake and head to Dinky Lake. This is a short 3 mile jaunt, but if we continue past Dinkey lake, there are 3 or 4 other lakes within a mile to 3 from there. If we want, we could go past those lakes and make a turn into the top of Swamp Lake. This all depends if we can get there. This is not the main way into Swamp so it might be accessible. If we are good on time, it might be an option to try to get there. The worst is we turn around and stay at the lakes around Dinkey Lake. It may be open. If we do that, it is about 6+ hard miles from Coyote and we would have to make it before night fall.

Sunday either leave Dinkey Lake and surrounding lakes / Swamp Lake and head out to a more southerly exit onto 168 37-.09.707N/-119-12.145W. From Swamp, it is almost twice as long as the Friday night run, but from the Dinkey lakes, it is about the same.

Since we will have little ones, this is probably our best option and should keep some of the trail on an intermediate crawl some of the time.
Any Comments?

Dustin, want to give directions to the cabin, or do you want to PM people going?
