Its been about seven months since I dropped a 6.2 diesel in my cruiser, and for the past month whenever I drive around 45-55 mph it seems that the whole drivetrain starts shaking like crazy. Its driving me nuts. I already took my driveshaft to be rebalanced, replaced my trans mount, and neither made a difference. Its also strange that if I go faster than 55 it stops and drives fine. I'm totally confused and just hoping that its not my transfer case. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

drivetrain

Your problem and my problem are the same. Good luck I have replaced my entire rear end and rebuilt my drive shaft. And it is still making noise. I suggest that you try and drive truck without rear drive shaft on and see if it is still making that noise. You may have a issue in your tranmission.

Have you had the rear end checked??

Ditto on the driv shaft on both, Is your alignment on the drivetrain in the stock location? Tires balanced and rotated. Good stabilizer up front?

I have not checked the rear end, but testing it in front wheel drive is a good idea. I sure hope that its not my trans but I would like a solution to both of our problems soon.

BTW, its not making any noise, just shaking.

Its not in the stock location, but I didnt have a problem with it before and I just had it rebuilt and rebalanced.

I also talked to a tire guy down the street and explained my problem and he said an unbalanced tire should not make the drivetrain shake.

I don't know if the front stabilizer is bad but the front end doesnt shake at all.

I guess for right now I can only drive really slow or kinda fast.

It almost feels like the engine, trans, and trasfercase is going to shake so much that it may just drop from under my truck.

Its been a while but I'm sure they were all there when I put it together.

If the tranny/transfer aren't making any noise thn it has to be a rotating assy, rear pinion would sound horrible, Been wheeling hard lately to where you may have bent an axle? Checked the U-Bolts?

Yeah that sounds bad to me too, but I haven't been wheeling in a while and I just checked the u-bolts. So right now I really don't know what to do. I'm almost thinking of asking the the smog station I used to go to to let me run my cruiser on their rollers and maybe see whats going on.

That is a safe idea. Pus you will get to see from the under side where it wobbles, shakes, maybe a noise you don't hear when in the cab.

I guess I'll just wait till I have some time to go through things and maybe take it to the smog guy to have a look, but I doubt I'll be driving it soon with diesel prices at $4.79 a gallon.

are you tires balanced?

are you tires balanced?

As I said earlier, I spoke with a tire guy down the street from my house and he said that unbalanced tires shouldnt make the truck shake that much.

Check the driveshaft - universal joints may be ceasing

My u joints only have about 200 miles on them.

I guess for right now I'm just SOL.

drove my truck after sitting for about two years for motor swap and had the same problem 45-55 shakes like its gonna fall apart. stole a set of tires off my brothers truck and not a shake at all. still havent got the tires balanced just too lazy just know its there and got used too it.

good luck

Bryon

Thanks blackandbluefj, I guess the tire guy I spoke to may not know my particular situation, I just hope thats the problem. Thanks again

Got my tires balanced today and no help at all. :crybaby: I think I'm going to get my driveshaft balanced again and pray for the best.
