What a great weekend....about 22-26 Land Cruisers...hard to keep count....but a BUNCH!
We got into camp Friday without any issues...set up camp, topped off fuel, bought passes and firewood. We had ShermanFJ62, Bryan89 and Renee, Excessive and myself in area.....we stayed at the Group Camp while rest stayed at Barn. Logans truck was going to be parked at Group Camp and I was keeping eye on it for his father who was going to wheel it for the first time on Saturday
While fire was getting going....ShermanFJ62 brought out the axe (no alchohol involved) and he and Excessive splitted some wood....until after a few minutes the axe handle had big chunk taken out of the side....Ooooops. Not sure if it was Sherman when he split a log with handle earlier LOL or Excessive having some operator error....we all got a big laugh about the AMERICAN HICKORY.
Well I started dinner when we finally got some good coals in fire with a venison sloppy joe mixture being put together....started well and then near end while stirring I started noticing black things in the pot. At first I thought....wow, that fire is hotter than I thought if it is burning the sauce already....so kept stirring, added a little more water.
Put it in bowls...white bread....sloppy joes....cold beverages...it was good then crunch, crunch, crunch....I said...damn got a piece of burnt sloppy joe mix. Then someone else said they did too....but it felt different.
Next piece I crunched felt like pork rind...so pulled it out of mouth. It wasnt burnt food it was wood chips....those bastard wood chucks (Sherman and Excessive) had wood chips flying all over and they were gong in my dutch oven and getting burned on bottom. LMMFAO.....so we had quite tasty and digestible charcoal in our system now....good worming or poison prevention so is all good. LOL
Then I got out my LED Lantern while Bryan got out the propane lantern with no handle or lense guard....and we started talking about better models that are more durable for about 20 minutes...then CRASH! Excessive stands up to dump his plate and a gremlin tried to push the lantern on his leg and catch him on fire for his wood cutting debauchery but alas it fell harmlessly to the ground and broke that NOTED FRAGILE lense we just finished discussing...LMAO While he was going now to dump plate he tripped over his flashlight...twice.....so then I made the joke his name should not be EXCESSIVE but instead...."Mayhem" like the insurance commercial........"breaky, breaky!" We cracked up....but not before a couple more tripping incidents....we sat around and talked and consumed beverages and finally succumbed to the 31* weather and went to bed.
Saturday we awoke bright and early for an 8:30am meet time at Outpost...I cooked up some sausage and eggs for everyone to warm them up from the cold night....then we headed out and ran trails all day.....Dickie Bell, Dutch John, Rocky Mountain Loop, Daniel, etc.....no EASY trails were done all being MODERATE or DIFFICULT.
After a long day of wheeling we all met at Logans Parents property for a big dinner of shrimp, oysters, venison sausage, venison chili, Beafort Stew, cornbread, Rotel, dips, crackers, cured ham, cake, wings, etc.....and more shrimp and more oysters and more chili.......I think everyone at abotu 5 plates. We headed back to our campsite after getting some wood from the guy on side of road...honor system but wood was dryer and more of it for less money. Felt wierd taking wood and sliding money through crack cut in barn wall for the payment....but it worked for him and the wood was outstanding after the green stuff from Outpost night before.
Finally went to bed late and today we all headed back at various times.
Great to see Bryan and his girlfriend who bravely came out amongst us heathens...but know who she already puts up with we were boy scouts. LOL Good to see Excessive and Clayton... also saw the three Lowcountry guys (Dbenke, ScottJ and Scott Shelley)....and about 20 others from mostly ONSC...I saw a couple from UC...Marshall and Drew.
Great time by all...great wheeling...weather was perfect...dust was very low....no significant breakages...only one I heard of with any impact was ScottJ sheared off hub flange bolts and blew hub assembly on Kodak Rock but was drivabel, albeit, 3 wheel drive....and he trailered to Outpost anyhow.
Well....Uwharrie is closing in a week or two for the Winter...so until next time...thanks for your participation and support.
oh, and the fleece jackets were a hit...warm and everyone asked about them. Thanks Michael.
Hopefully the whole group can go up next time with BBQBoy, Lextech, CustomAV, RKing and others all coming out too.
There are a lot of pictures and video taken by Renee, Bryan and Clayton...so post it up here so everyone can check it out.
