Just wanted some feedback from those who are running series parallel switches to use a 24v starter with a 12v system. I'm getting ready to swap a 24v 2h into a fj62. I've found a 12v alt and and I'm getting the right 10.5 glow plugs. I wouldn't mind keeping the 24v's for starting.

I've seen the parallel switch used in many boats with no problem so I don't see why it wouldn't work in a truck.

It works, Diesel 80s came factory with a 24v starter in an otherwise 12v system.
IMO it's not worth the extra complexity and parts. Dual batteries and a 12v starter works really well.

The only reason I'm wanting to try it is b/c I already have a 24v starter and a switch. So I don't need to spend money on anything.

IIRC some of the older medium duty trucks came with this setup also.

I too would rather have a 12v starter....Anyone want to trade a 12v for a 24v?

I ran my 2H in both configurations and the 24V system is much
better to start. Especially when cold.
You have to pull 1/2 the amount of amps out of the batteries
which is easier on the wiring unless you have a huge cable
going to the 12V starter!

The series parrallel switches are not that hard to set up, just
a few extra wires.
Make sure you get a good quality switch. They were made by
Delco at one time, Dont know if they still offer them.
Any HD unit from a medium or heavy duty truck should work
fine in your rig.

I just scored a NOS ac delco on ebay for $22. Was for marine use so it should be tough enough to handle my application. Looks like I'll be going with the 24v starter. When it finally dies I may get a 12v.
