I am just wondering what everybody's opinion of the Sequoias are? My wife is currently driving a 2012 Honda Odyssey, and we both love it, but we bought it new and we are currently financing it. This sucks, and we are thinking about trading it off and using the 5K or so of equity we have in it plus a little bit of savings money to get out of payments. At least wicked expensive payments. Carmax has some Sequoias available, but I've never been in one. Are they as reliable as the Land Cruisers? I'm looking at probably a 2005 or older.

2005 is what we have, I would go with the '05. 5 speed tranny, with 42 more HP. We had a '95 80 for many years and loved it. I miss that truck everyday! Sold the 80 to get the sequoia, it gets better gas mileage for sure and can tow more. The sequoia is not as sturdy as the 80 in my opinion, it's not the 4x4 rig either. I feel that they are pretty reliable and super safe, lots of airbags.

I would try my hardest to find a 100 series in your budget before a Sequoia. Probably would be pretty challenging though. My mom has an 05 Tundra she bought new and has babied up to 140000 miles. The interior is noisier and has more rattles than my 80 which has over a hundred thousand more miles and sees regular off road use.

Meant to say 42 more HP for 2005 model.

Not a bigger V8...Still the 4.7 2UZ...The 5.7 didnt come till 2007, and you'll notice a BIG price jump between 2006 and 2007's.

However, 2005 introduced the new VVTi on the 4.7, and the new A750 5spd tranny though...I think thats probably where the extra HP came from...

SO yeah, best bet is an '05 or '06 if its in your price range.
All the bugs were worked out of the model by '03, so you should be good to go with any Sequoia from '03-'06.

OOPS.... On a real computer now..... Can't see sig lines on mobile so I didn't know you already had a 100 series when I suggested getting one instead of a "big tree".

I just went from an 80 to a Sequoia. I love it and will never go back. I wanted an 05, but got a 03 Limited. There are a couple little things wrong with mine, but it's still a Toyota.
