I just got off the phone with Powers Industrial Equipment, LTD, and it looks like we could save a couple of dollars purchasing in bulk. Here are the prices delivered to a single address in Dallas with order of 20 or more cans.

Fuel Can $41.50
Water Can $21.80
Spouts $20.56

Not bad since I've been paying around $50 for the cans delivered to me before. Scepter will stop selling the cans to civilians starting in 2008 so stock up now!

PM or post here if you are interested in this group buy.

John

The price on the MFC has been around $42-$48. Shipping from UPS usually cost around $8 due to the weight of the can. So the total incouding shipping is usually over $50.

You can't even have these delivered to you if you are in California due to the CARB rules.

Never mind the Group Buy.

It looks like we are not saving anything by going with a group buy. Otto had two delivered to his house in Dallas for $83.11...

Just call them up direct to order. It should be about $42 delivered to you place in Dallas which is a best deal I can find anywhere.

just found out that the Scepter cans are not CARB compliant. TExas is a CARB compliant state, and the online vendors can not send the Scepter cans to Texas customers.

the BLITZ plastic cans only cost $13 at 4Wheel Parts and they ARE CARB compliant.

So I know the Scepter cans look a lot cooler, and they seem better made.... but why is it that the Scepters are better? and how do we get one in Texas?

I found some CARB compliant Scepter plastic fuel cans in what they call the "jeep styel" that many of us prefer. They are only $27ea or 4 for $80 and include a spout for each one. It is only $7.99 to ship all 4 to me... and no tax.

go to http://www.unclejoes.com then click on "G" for gas can, and you will see it in big white letters on the Left. they have great prices. and they have a Scepter heavy duty can that is CARB compliant... meaning that the spout is spill proof and create less vapor when pouring into your truck. both are good things.

but why not the Blitz plastic cans like this:

http://www.blitzusa.com/products/fuel/Containment/pfc5carb.htm

they are much less expensive, and they have two handles, one for the carrying position and one for the pouring position? I could get 4 of them for $56. Are they not as good as the Scepters? or is it that they just don't have that old school look like the Scepters?

yes, I always avoid buying things online from an in state vendor, because one of the reasons to buy online in the first place is to avoid paying the sales tax.

here are a couple of other sources:

http://www.davidsonproducts.com/gastransit.htm

http://www.pangaea-expeditions.com/scepter/

now I am trying to decide on which spout to get.

Davidsonproducts no longer sell MFC (Military Fuel Containers) to civilians
Pangaea-expeditions sell the MFC at the same price as Sleeoffroad. The shipping it is what will cost you - I think I paid $7-$8 last time to have the MFCs so the total of $41.50 delivered to an Dallas address is about 20% cheaper than anyone else I can find.

Texas is a CRAB state but no on is enforcing the CARB rule on gas cans until next year.

If you want Blitz cans, I have a whole bunch of them, some used and some unused, for sale - cheap!

The Scepter Military Fuel Containers are no the same as the their civilian fuel cans and the price reflects the quality. I bought them because I like the way they are overbuilt - like the cruisers :)

You can order from the MFCs from Power Industrial Equipment.

The MFCs don't leak. They don't explode when hit by bullets (not that you need it), they empty out in less than 2 minutes (for the entire 5 gallons) with the unleaded spout. With the military spout, they can be emptied in less than 45 seconds. The MFCs don't rust. The MFCs don't dent. The MFCs don't leak. The MFCs don't leak. Did I say that the MFCs don't leak - which is really swell for a wagon owner who sometimes carries his fuels inside the vehicle.

thanks for the info. Ok, I am sold on the MFC Scepters, but I don't see how anyone in Texas can possibly buy one. Slee Off-Road, for example, says they will not ship to Texas. Neither will any of the other online vendors. Pangea doesn't say that, but they don't have a phone number or a way to buy online by clicking a link and putting it in your shopping cart. I would be surprised if they didn't observe the same laws that everyone else is obsserving.

So with these illegal MFC fuel containers that you say no one is enforcing untill next year.... does this mean that next year cops might pull you over because of them? Does it mean that State Parks, or Big Bend National Park might not let you enter with them? Or does it mean that gas stations can't legally allow you to fill them (as with glass bottles)?

septer fuel cans

Well I have bought one of the military (jerry cans) from Oreliy autoparts back in July.

it cost me about 41.00

I didn't have any problem other than it took them a few days to get it shipped down to the store for me. Plus no shipping cost because they usually have a truck running anyway.

give it a try
Brian

Jsaltlick, thanks, but we are talking about what everyone tells me is the only can to get, the one and only Scepter plastic military style cans. This is the only fuel can that the US military and the UN has been using for over 20 years. You can run over them and shoot at them, they will hold up. It is my understanding that the metal cans are pretty obsolete. The plastic ones are just a lot tougher and less likely to leak or destruct than the metal ones.

What about you Brian? you say that O'reilleys sells the Scepter MFC (military fuel can)?

fuel cans

Chris,

No these are not the septer military fuel cans. The one I got is the old fashoned jerry can.

It doen't fit the spill proof reqiurements that they are shoving at us. My personal opinion is that silly spill proof nozzel is junk.

I have used a few of the new fuel cans with that spill prof nozzel and shortly after the first use the spill proff mechanism was gone. I don't care to stand there and dribble the fuel into the filler neck of my truck, because I have to hold the can just right while holding pressure to keep the spout open for fuel to flow.

If a person can't take care of himself lets just let survival of the fittest do its job. To many government agencys are trying to protect us from ourselves.

As far as the so idea that metal cans will rust out and leak. Not in most of our lifetimes.

I have several steel fuel cans that have been used, neglected & abused. These cans still don't leak and they are upwards of 20-25 years old now.

My thoughts exactly.

I use an old NATO fuel can (I think?) and a transmission funnel (long, narrow). Works better than the silly clamp on filler neck, that leaked from day one. And it's mounted inside the bed, so it pretty wel protected from crap on the trails.
