CLC and Friends,

My two Brothers and I are planning a clean-up day at my 86-Y-O Grandmother's house this Saturday, September 10.

My Grandfather (Lash Rushing) moved her, my Mother, and Aunt into this house before he went away to WWII. He died in Italy. She never remarried and has lived in this house for 65 years. My Mother picked her up on Sunday before Katrina hit and she is currently staying with my parents in Jackson. Mom told me today that my Grandmother cries often and wants to go home. She can't go home until the roof is fixed. The roof can't be fixed until the trees and limbs are removed from the house and yard. Some of it will be too big for us to move, but we will get all we can. We will need to place a couple of tarps over the holes after moving the limbs and trees.

This will be a one day job. We should be able to get it all done in one day. If anyone nearby would like to come and help, you are welcome and greatly appreciated. I will be taking my Explorer and I'm sure there will be at least one more SUV from my family if anyone needs a ride

I will have a chainsaw, come-along, chains, straps, snatch block, shackles, tarps, rope, ladder, etc. We will need to be self sufficient as there is no food, running water, sewer, or electricity and the wait for gas is hours. I want to leave Jackson with enough gas to get there and back (3hr round trip). It would be nice to have a bigger rig (60/62/80) with a winch if possible. Bring your gloves and any size hand saw if you have one.

I will provide food and water for all in attendance - No beer at GG's house!

Please let me know if you plan to attend so we will have enough food and water.

Thanks in advance for your support

PS: Tentatively planning a weekend in Pass Christian helping close friends the following weekend. Gas availability is the main concern.

No generator needed at this time. I have one if the need arises. Thanks very much.

We will definitely need chain saws, bow saws, come-alongs, chain, rope, rakes, wheelbarrow/carts, gloves. I have a 6' ladder but we will need one or two taller if possible.

I'll take care of the tarps and food.

PS: Fill up your gas cans as well --- if possible

I can bring a ca20' ladder. Maybe another larger one if I can borrow it. I have a couple of rakes, machete, hatchet, bow saw....possibly a wheelbarrow. I also have a 5 gallon gas can, 5 gallon water can and two 2 gallon water cans and a large ice chest, if needed. I have a 10 year old boy to help bear loads.

What is the departure time? From where?

Looks like we are in a holding pattern as a contractor MAY start clean up and roof repair as early as this Thursday. It may end up that a little "moving" is all that's needed. Move everything out of the den and garage so they can be repaired. The contractor has heavy equipment and will also remove the many 80 ft stumps (pine trees with tops blown off).

We may redirect to Pass Christian for a Sat/Sun clean up at the Denwitties. I will start a new thread if this comes together.

Thanks for the support!

Clean up at Grandma's has been rescheduled for Saturday, Sept 17 due to insurance company BS.

I will be going down to Pascagoula to help my bro Paul at his GF's house (lost some roof). Then we will go over to Gulfport to help her family (three houses - one left as a shell). They all got it really bad.

Ocean Springs friends (Denwitties) are picking-up the generator tomorrow. We may make it over there if we have time.

Be safe!

Do you desire help (another truck) with this? The reason I ask is that a friend who is now living in jackson needs help moving due to the shortage of U-haul vans which has resulted from the storm. I'm not at all trying to get out of my commitment to you, just asking how badly I'm needed.

Paul and I are heading to Gulfport tomorrow. Paul's GF's family lost 2 of the 3 houses and the third is a shell. They have been given until 5:00 Sat to get everything out. Their neighborhood is getting the bulldozer starting Sun or Mon.

We don't need another truck, just any hands and strong backs. Any help would be appreciated on Saturday.

Call my cell (601-594-7949) if you are on the coast and can lend a hand.

We will probably be leaving early Sat morning.
