"Hats off" to you for picking up on a scam. and your dog looks better w/o that silly hat!

If poor Doug's going to lose his 40, I want it to be for a good reason! BTW, not my dog. I just liked the pic.:beer::beer:

Here's the original pic.

Dave,
Thanks, we fired them already. They were coming to our "new" house to try to get us on another contract...we declined. So, I will chill out about the A/C until the spring....and, I will keep the '40.

I really feel silly for reacting like that....

Dave is right.

DON'T SELL IT!!! You will regret it.

Park it and cover it. Good 40's are getting harder to come by.

don't sell

If anything, buy another truck. it will make you feel better. that is what i did. ;)

herb,
glad you came to your senses.
next time post up I've got a budy that might be able to help you out.

DING DING DING!!!! You said the magic words - Croppe Metcalfe. We stupidly bought a service contract with them when we first moved in years ago. Every year a tech would come out and give us a different reason to replace the A/C. We fired them. *I* figured out we just had a slow leak of freon. The unit needed recharging every year and would freeze up on hot days. Also, the lawn care guys bashed up the fins real good too, making the unit very inefficient. We replaced the unit.

Water should only be coming from condensation, which is normal. You can get a few gallons on a good day. Our condensate pump runs a lot. There is no water anywhere else in the A/C system. If you have cold air, and you're unit isn't freezing up, what's the problem? Sure, it could be inefficient due to a number of factors, but if it seems to work, no problem. Save your money and call somebody better. We used Presidential. Of all the outfits we tried, they seemed the most competent. They installed a kick-ass Carrier for a great price (relative to other quotes we got).

There should be a condensation line that routes the water/condesation outside or into a drain. It should be 3/4" PVC. Sometimes those clog and cause the system to leak inside the HVAC room somewhere. Take that line apart and blow some water through it to make sure it's clean.

My neighbor had this happen and actually flooded half his basement and into my garage (townhome). It was so much water he thought it was the water supply line into the house and was getting ready to replace it to the tune of $1300. I told him to make sure it wasn't the condensation line and sure enough it was.

PS- sorry, I meant to quote Herb

They can most definitely clog! Especially if your "expert friend" helped you build a patio over the end of the pipe. Ended up buying a condensate pump at Home Despot and running the output to my wash machine outflow.

I'll bet that is what is going on ... so I will take the advice and blow out that condensate pipe.

Good news! We're getting a refund check from Croppe Metcalfe! We aren't going to use them anymore..so we're getting the unused balance off of our GOLD service plan. Our old house had a stellar system that was covered with Croppe's "top-o-the-line" service plan that we renewed in January and then sold the house June....so we're getting $200+ back! My wife had to turn on the b*tch machine..but she got them to cough up the check!

Thanks for the help guys.....

Doug

What can you buy for your Cruiser with $200?

Will $200 be enough?

What can you buy for your Cruiser with $200?

hmmmm....let me see....
1. Can of POR 15
2. Wire Wheel
3. Bondo & Fiberglass to repair holes in Rockers
4. 4-channel amp and speakers.

Or, put $200 in the bank as a start on front discs.

....and beer!

I am very glad you came to your senses and did not sell the cruiser. You would have regretted it and had a hell of a time finding one for that price in that condition in this area.

Your issue almost *has* to be a clogged condensation drain line. There is no other water involved with a HVAC system unless you have a humidifier on the system. You need to follow this line and find out where it dumps out, inside or outside the home. If outside, it is probably clogged by debris or critters trying to build a house in the end of it. Any HVAC system guy knows this because it happens all the time. That particular rep was trying to make a big fat commission selling you something you don't need. My buddy got sold an entire hydronic heat boiler system this past winter by the same company when all that went out was his circulation pump. He paid $6000 for a new system when I paid $200 for the exact same pump and replaced it myself in my own system just a few years earlier. They told him the pump was no longer available and he needed a new system.

I just freaked out. The thought of paying upwards of $6K for a new HVAC system got me thinking about unloading a lot of stuff.

Our condensation drains inside, into a pipe that goes through the concrete floor of the basement. The tubing has a crimp in it and is all funky inside, so I'm going to replace all of that and see if it improves flow and stops the leaks.

I can't believe I almost fell for that scam. Those Croppe Metcalfe guys sure can spread the fear.

Ours goes into the concrete floor as well and exits at the back of the house. You may have to dig for it. And if all else fails, just buy a condensate pump. They're about $50 and just sit on the floor. Make sure you have a water drain somewhere nearby for the pump to expel the water.

definitely clogged, get some 3/4" pvc, a hack saw, and some pvc cement from home depot and save yourself $6000.

Spend some money on the cruiser also so it won't be mad at you for trying to ditch it:beer::beer::beer::beer::beer:
