The time has come to part with my 80, I'd appreciate some advice on setting an asking price.
For some context, I would prefer to see it go to an ONSC'er or at least a 'Mudder. I am not looking to hold out for every last penny, but rather part with it for a fair price preferably to someone who knows Cruisers and how to appreciate and love this one.
Current state: 1995 FZJ80 with 255k mi. Difflocks, center diff switch, Pin 7 mod. Needs re-baselining; power steering pump needs rebuilt (have new hoses); needs new tie-rod ends installed (I have the CO 555 ends in the garage). It leaks and burns some oil. There's a water leak when it rains, sunroof or windshield. Windshield is fully intact, however could stand to be replaced, I have an OEM gasket. No other known leaks.
Body is in pretty decent shape. I have the driver's door dent from a deer taking a header into it; the rockers have some dings, dents, gouges, but no perforation. Both rear plastic external vent mounts were broken, kinda half-assed fix applied. Driver's mirror needs one of the quick-fixes. NO RUST on frame or body, no clear-coat peeling. Hood has typical chips for a 19-yr old vehicle. Stock front bumper all scratched up. The fender flares are starting to fade.
Mods and other: FOR springs cut down to 2.75" lift; new owner will likely want new shocks to replace the tired ProComps. Slee Rear adjustable panhard. 295/75R16 Hankook Dynapro MT with plenty of life left. 4x4Labs rear bumper. IPOR tranny/xfer crossmember/skidplate; mostly aftermarket stainless exhaust. Alpine stereo with newish Pioneer and Kenwood speakers all around (sub deleted a while ago). Great brown carpet from an LX. Corbeau Moab seats are a big demerit as color is nowhere near oak interior. EGR disabled. Jerry's interior tire carrier. WagonGear tailgate enclosure. All electronics work, windows are slow in the winter. BumpIt Offroad HD slider-steps not installed, they could stand a wire wheel and paint job.
I'm sure there's more which I'm forgetting and I will do a full inventory and objective look before making an official for sale thread. I also have a log of every tank of gas, road trip, and maintenance or mod since I bought it Nov 2006. Also includes original window sticker.
Whatcha think? I peruse some of the ads here and am just as confused as ever, For some reason, $5k seems fair and reasonable to me, but I could use a sanity check. I would absolutely appreciate any input, comments, questions.
Thanks Guys and Girls.
