brett this setup is ready for early or late since you'll have to buy the rear adapter from marlin, you also need to purchase the rest of the 4.7 gears from marlin. just tell them what you have and they'll get you set up with the rest, maybe $6-700? this is one of the early toyboxes and i had the clearance the input gear splines, but thats normal on early ones, pismojim went through the same process with his if you want a second opinion. it all works perfect and smooth.

no issue as long as you use the input i have with it, theyre a matched set now. what happened was on the early ones the splines on the tranny output shaft didnt get machined deep enough so the customer had to grind down the input gear collar (part the slides on the splined output shaft) 2-3mm otherwise it binded up when assembled. it was so new a problem marlin didnt even realize it for a while. if you wanted to get an all new 4.7 set from marlin i'm sure they could machine down the collar since they know what you'll be talking about, or, maybe they machined down ALL the collars to fix the problem.
yes the tranny needed to be completely disassembled for the new shaft, its the main shaft, and would need to be completely disassembled to be removed, it would surely save on shipping cost, but its already done and good so shipping cost might be worth assembly time?
