Hey everyone,

Im (still) selling my 78 FJ40. I had posted this awhile back and have since sold the front bull bar, winch, PIAA lights, and snorkel. The rig is located in Solon if you want to stop by and check it out. Runs well, has some rust, mainly at the bottom of the doors, but nothing terrible. Front and rear locking differentials, power steering, CD player, bikini top, other misc parts. I'd like to sell it local if I can and havent posted anywhere else yet. $5500. If you are interested email me at ashtonremod@gmail.com. Thanks, Dave

Dave,

I'll be over either Saturday afternoon, or Sunday morning to take a look.

Thanks,
Art

Very nice......

Well, we made it home. Steph and I left at noon in her car, took us about 1:45 to get to Solon. I pulled up to Dave's house and he was outside mowing.

Dave gave me the tour of the truck and I asked a few newb 40 questions. He threw in some items to go along with the truck, a lock box for between the driver and passenger seats, roof rack, spare tire carrier, spare, front bumber, a cricket, and some manuals, filters and the like.

Dave showed me his current collection and we were on our way. We got about 20 miles east of Cedar Rapids on Hwy 30 and I got a call from work, server down...okay, no problem, Brett's only 10 minutes away. Called him, he was phone then my phone lost service. No biggie. I pull in to Brents about ten minutes or so later and park. Before I'm even out of the truck, some crazy guy in an escort is coming at me, driving on my side of the street, he snakes along side me and slides in behind me. I got a good glance at him as he passed by, it was Dave Zangerle! Apparently, Dave and Brent had been working on the orange 40's rear-end after Brent "thought" he could burn some rubber...

So, I go inside and hop on Brent's computer, get the work done and then take my new to me 40 back to Brents garage. We open the hood and Brent notices that it's leaking anti-freeze...doh! I had noticed that when I got out, the engine temp was a little high, found the reason quick... Now, had work not called me, or called me two minutes later and my cell hadn't worked, I would have been driving down the road...missing about 2 gallons of radiator fluids...yeah, it was already that low...

So, down the street I went to the gas station for some stop leak...best $2.64 I've ever spent...poured about half of it in, and Brent started filling it with anti-freeze and water. Topped it off, started it up and it was good to go, no leaks or anything. So, Brent says to me, hey you want to make a trade? I said sure, what for what? My new radiator for that lock box. DONE!

Steph and I shoved off about 4 PM from Newhall...we needed to be back by 6:30 to give us enough time to get to baby classes.

We got back about 6:30, and just decided we'd try to make up the baby class some other night as we were both exhausted.

So, my 40 is home. Time for me to go finish the Tall Corn Cruiser Classic article for Toyota Trails...

Thanks ALL for everything, this is what this whole community is all about!

Glad to hear you made it home ok.

Did your co-pilot talk over the radio the whole way home?
He was a loud sucker when I heard him!

When I find his corpse (it's cold here tonight), I think I'm going to give him a proper burial in some clear epoxy (think mosquito from Jurassic Park) and make him my co-pilot for life. :D

Nice looking 40, Art. I'm sorry I wasn't able to help out, and I barely remember talking to you Saturday evening. :(

When are you slapping on the Black Cherry paint? :)

Yes it is, saginaw as a matter of fact, never did I think I'd see Brent drool over someone elses 40, but I think he liked it. :D Heck, I've been drooling over his for a while now...:D

At least you have a real FJ now.....

Art,

Glad to hear you made it home. Sorry about the radiator thing. It only heated up for me on hot days in the summer...how fast were you going : )

It is a sweet rig and Im super happy that it stayed in Iowa. Art will be a good owner you can bet on that.

Its always a sad day when one of your cruisers leaves the nest, but knowing it is being adopted by the right person makes it alright. And hey, now Im down to four.

Dave

Yeah, and I'm going to have to get a winch strong enough to pull you out when we go wheeling next... :D What do those 80's weigh in at, 4 tons? So I'll need a Warn XD9000i, man your an expensive wheeling buddy... :p
