I posted this once before and it generated some questions and picture requests... However, the original thread doesn't come up anymore.

I am needing some advice on selling a 1998 TLC.

I am helping my friend sell his land cruiser. He runs a very large special needs ministry here in Dallas and the balling leaves a little challenge when it comes to financing a new car.

His growing family is requiring a minivan (swagger wagon) and he is needing to sell his cruiser. The 1998 TLC with 216k miles was donated to him but now must be sold to fund the minivan. His committee did a fund raiser and raised $16,200 but the last little piece will be the sale of this car.

Everything is operational. However there is a small crack on top of the radiator. I am trying to decided if I need to replace the radiator or just sell as is.

I'm looking to help him get $7,200 for it, which is what he needs to purchase the minivan. Do you think that is possible? Where should I list it? Auto trader or craigslist is what I was thinking. Any advice would be awesome.

Good for you for helping out your buddy. I'd ask to get this moved over to classifieds and post everything you know about the truck (maintenance and repairs / repairs needed) and a lot of pictures. At that price, it probably won't be worth the owners money to fix the radiator. If it were me, I'd have it deep cleaned and sell it as-is.

Craigslist can be a good place to post as well, but it will take time dealing with "the People of Craigslist" as I like to call them. You could also try calling around to local independent dealers, they might offer you at an acceptable price.

Thanks for the feedback. Do you think that price is realistic?

100s with those miles are all over the place on price. Does it have a real locker (I presume it does)? A lot of the enthusiasts like that option. Just looking at the couple of pictures, I don't think it unreasonable asking price, as that price is at the bottom of the overall market. If needs a lot of repair (steering rack, CV boots, timing belt, water pump, odds & ends), someone that knows what they are getting into might not want to pay that much for it. A 100 that hasn't been kept up can rack up $3-5k in shop repair pretty quick. Like I said, my opinion is that you should get it cleaned up and list it and see what happens.

If it's a rust free truck, someone may scoop it up. I'd personally rather pay $10k for a perfectly kept one (miles and year model being equal).

I think it has been well maintained. Like I said it was on permanent loan as a donation and he felt responsible to be a good steward of it. It is a good suggestion to find out about the service records.

It is rust free for sure spending its life in central Texas.
