Pretty much everything.:hillbilly: If you spend a few minutes reading you may notice some sarcasm, good natured jabs, etc. It's all in good fun, but if you take everything seriously, you wont last long here.

true that! Thats all we know...jabbing and giving each other s**t. All in good fun. Read some other threads in the group and youll see how it is. Text can be taken too literally -

Oh yeah...:flipoff2:

Yes the big smiley between the two fingers.....it is a general ribbing and typical welcome here on IH8MUD

So Welcome and good luck on your truck hunt many take 2 years finding the right truck :flipoff2:

Listen guys, I am not up on the forum etiquette; however, I am familiar with communities in general (not specifically Land Cruisers) demonstrating "elitism" and being overly critical of how others choose to spend their money.

I see a face giving me the finger about my preference (I realize some may not care about color) and I interpreted it at face value. If I misinterpreted and was overly harsh, I sincerely apologize to cook and the other member.

I want to make sure I find the right Land Cruiser and my thoughts are that I can add aftermarket lockers later, but do not want to have to go through the trouble of repainting to my color preference.

Again, my apologies for the harsh tone. It is difficult to interpret communication via text. Thanks for the welcome.

Elitism in the CSC? Hahahahahahahahhahahahahahhaha!:hillbilly::grinpimp:

ALmost forgot :flipoff2:

actually color can be very important to some. I was looking for a 40th in sage looked at several but passed because they didn't have lockers then found a black LX with lockers that was clean and low miles and purchased the truck I have now. For many the idea of having factory lockers is very important however some don't like them and would rather spend 3k on ARB's because they think they are better lockers and the axles are stronger (less prone to twisting and locking on to the lock ring). To each his own.

However, around here people are going to give you a hard time if you are more into the looks of your rig than the wheeling of your rig.

I really don't think there is very much elitism around here on MUD....but I am sure you could find it if you look hard enough. :grinpimp:

Nothing wrong with an unlocked land cruiser, picking color over capability is what I was giving you a ribbing about. First off, for $10,000 you are unlikely to pick up a low mileage land cruiser that still has nice leather. So if ‘style’ is what you’re looking for, you’ll need to spend more or look into one of the $1000 leather replacement kitsAATLAS1X sells, which you can get in any color your hart desires.

And the smiling face giving someone the finger is the official salute of the mud community.

I thought being a dickhead was a requirement around here?
Not really. We just let the Tucson folks think that so they don’t get self-conscious. :meh:
(I think I’ll avoid thefinger for awhile).

Understood, it's somtimes difficult to mesh into a community when you don't know the local customs. The 'finger' is almost always used in jest. Around here you're best to assume everthing people say is sarcastic. :D. Good luck with your hunt.

HERE'S one I'm considering. Low mileage '94 in the color(s) I want. No lockers though and not local. I also would also like to stick with '96-'97 so I can standard airbags, but I dunno if there are any other reasons to rule out a '94. Any opinions?

As for the condition of the leather, I'm not too concerned about it; it's more the gray dash that I prefer over the tan. Call me picky.

The Toyota emblem on the rear is broken and not replaced. Clearly the PO had no pride of ownership. Buy it and do right by it.
(P.S., I think Edmunds puts the price around $6800).

One nice thing about have a '96-'97 and some '95s is having OBDII. I bought scangauge II and it helps me monitor my water temp and other semi useful things. Oh and welcome to MUD! :flipoff2:

Dickhead.

True. But you have to admit it’s funny.
(I’m trying to develop my appreciation for subtlety. Phil’s post was priceless).

Of course, not having OBDII means you can save some money by not buying a scangauge. Not to mention the time you will save on not looking for a place to put the thing.

NADA puts it at ~$7100 retail. Aside from that, I think I just need to pass on it and hold out for a later year with abs, airbags, etc.

Good point.

The true/later '95 and the '96-'97, are basically the exact same truck. From a state emissions stand point, the '96-'97 are OBDII compliant. So even tho the '95 is the same rig it has to do the full emissions test (sniffer, under hood & under rig inspections, etc) that the earlier rigs do. On the '96-'97 rigs the test is, plug in the tester, check the fuel cap, good cap and no codes, good to go.

This makes mods much easier, they don't care/check equipment, if the OBDII ECU is happy, they are satisfied. For me this is a big advantage, have spent enough of my life arguing with emissions monkeys.:hillbilly:

If you get one without factory lockers, I'll trade 3rd members with you and give you my locker switch.
You'll have to get the wiring harness for the front and under the dash, and a new actuator for the rear ($700 or so last I looked. i have a spare used one, but I'm not sure if it works.) but it might save you much more than that in the purchase of the vehicle.
