self opening ashtray...

Our new (to us) '03 DC 4wd Taco has a self opening ashtray that is driving me nuts.
Washboard or remotely bumpy roads cause the ashtray to open...
I've had 1st gen Tacos before and never had this issue.
I'm thinking about pulling it apart and tweaking the spring, however that doesn't sound like a permanent fix.
Ideas?

My 3rd gen 4Runner isn't self opening but bumpy roads and stuff caused it to open all the time. I put a small strip of Velcro on the lip and corresponding piece on the opposite. It seems to be a lot better now. I used mine for change and I noticed the more I had in there, the more likely it would fly open. Maybe just a little Velcro is all ya need, if it's possible.

Remove ashtry, replace with CB. Problem solved.

Remove ashtry, replace with CB. Problem solved.

I put a small 100w in its place, for the cb.

Take out the coin tray and bend the tabs a bit.
