Warning: NEWB posting selfishly for those who have a spare minute and feel like chiming in on a fluff topic. I seem to be coming down with the OCD Cruiser bug..
Recently bought a burgundy red 1996 FZJ80, bone stock. Love the truck. PO gave it chrome LX450 wheels which I am not a fan of. I bought a set of FJ Cruiser 17" steel wheels (black) and some 1.5" spacers, and am planning on powder coating the rims a medium metallic grey. I like the more rugged, factory look of the FJ steel rims yet don't like black rims on a red cruiser (at least not with stock setup). Powder coat choice for now is Kingsport Grey since it's pretty common and cheaper.
COLOR
Would like to solicit wheel color suggestions as I've noticed many out there have strong opinions on such things and I've enjoyed reading many similar posts. I considered white or a more vintage cream color since I love the ol' wagon wheel rims on 40s but not sure so good on a red 80 with this rim.
TIRES
Next is tire choice... I'm probably going with BFG AT (D) 285 70 17's since after browsing FJ Cruiser forums they work on the FJ's 7.5" rim width. I keep looking at and lusting after KMT's
, but I live in the Northeast, drive in snow and mine is a DD that sees a lot of highway. Are MT's much louder? Are they impractical for DD use? My gut tells me the AT is way more practical for me, so that's what I'll prob get. The AT's seem the unanimous favorite from my research, and time-tested. Any other recommendations are welcome.
Currently no lift, new Bilsteins in back, doubt I will lift it for a while.
I'm new to my Land Cruiser, want to do this right and appreciate all of your advice and expertise.
