Hey folks, new here...been lurking for a bit while I research LC's & LX's...took a members advice and registered the VIN of an LX I'm looking at on the mylexus site, and the service history is cause for concern, to say the least. It's not the quantity of the entries so much as it is the content of the entries...everything from AHC not working to leaky sunroof to electrical issues...should this shun me away from buying it, or should I take that as "well, everything that's gone wrong with it has been fixed by a Lexus dealer"??? Any advice would be appreciated. It's an '02 w/ 130K going for $13K from a very reputable independent pre-owned dealership (but all service was done by owner at a even larger, more reputable Lexus dealership).

Thanks in advance!

It does appear that every issue was fixed...what also concerned me was the consistency of having seemingly major issues addressed...every few months or so...

Lots of LX's for sale out there. I found one near me that has the AHC removed for standard suspension but ended up finding a LC instead. I don't know if I'd feel comfortable getting one with such poor service records. Of course if they've all be repaired count them as new.. My PO had immaculate records and kept the truck is great shape. All receipts and dates for all service. Hold out if you can. Don't get one just to own one quickly!

Correct.

Once LC/LX fever overwhelmed me and money began burning a hole in my pocket, I checked the web for used trucks daily...sometimes twice a day. After about 6 months, I found an LX mall queen, owned by an MD, factory service at local Lexus dealer with service done beyond the book. Flew up with cash, negotiated a little, and drove it home the same day. No issues after about 80K in 6 years.

Like any large-ticket purchase, patience is definitely a virtue.

Awesome, thanks folks. Appreciate everything. Am a member of a lot of various forums, and from what I've seen this is by far the most friendly, helpful one. Well done to all.

Great advice so far. I looked approx. 90 days prior to finding a super clean, rust free, LX with every service record. Wait, and find the right car.

Remember, these were 70k new, and owners, usually well-to-do, serviced them to the letter-of-the-law. They exist. Or, buy from a mud member who changes the oil every thousand miles, checks tire pressure daily, and fixes things that aren't broken. They exist, too.
