Did this trail this summer, was super fantastic. The obstacle above is called the steps it is a 1 way trail you can only go down. One of the Jeep tours PINKY told me it is a 5.5 trail and inorder to go up it you have to use a winch (yeah right the FJ would go right up it no prob). If you are in Northern AZ I highly recommend doing this trail the scenary is unbelievable.

From RoadRunner 4wheelers
"The Broken Arrow Trail is located in Sedona, Arizona. To get to the trail go north on I-17 from Phoenix and take exit 298 (Highway 179 to Sedona). Follow Highway 179 north towards Sedona. Approximately 13 miles from leaving I-17 you will turn right on a small road called Morgan Drive. There is a wooden "Broken Arrow" sign at this turn and the trial begins 1/4 mile down this road past a small residential section."

Copper State Cruisers impromptu run

If you are coming from the Village of Oak Creek and you get to the Circle K turn around and go back ~a mile there is a very small sign that reads "Broken Arrow" on the left side of the road, right at the road you need to turn on (Morgan Rd.). Turn there, be courteous and drive like a normal person through the residential area and at the end of the pavement is whee the trail starts. I've never approached from the VOC side so I don't know if the sign faces both directions.

If you are going toward VOC from Sedona then look for the sign about a mile or so past the Circle K.

There is absolutely no friggin way that BA is a 5.5, even wet it may be a 4 at best. Myself and others have gone up the steps in the evening or night after the tours stop running. Not hard at all. The time was (10-12 years ago) that I would go through there in a CJ5 with a vette engine, T-18 4sp (6.35 first) 4.10's a 2.5 lift and 33's and not get out without a little scrape here or there. Since the baby boomers are retiring the scene has definitely changed. It is like a superhighway.

Back in the day, you might see 15 a day of Pink Jeep Tours out there, now they are running >60 tours there a day and there are two other competing companies. The only good thing is because the tours bring $$$$ in the residents haven't been able to shut the trail down (yet).

You should have no problems in a modified Barbie:princess: Cruiser as I know of at least a few 80's that have gone through stock and the worst thing was the one that went through with running boards jacked one up a little.

Don't be discouraged, It is worth the views I'm just saying that it isn't going to provide solitude. 60+ is at the peak of the season not now. Even at the peak of the season, you just need to get started early ~9am.

We did a run that took BA then Schnebly hill road to the Basalt Trail and some members camped there and that was in May. Very busy there then. Plenty of other places in and around Sedona to explore also.

Go, It will be fine.

The stairsteps are pretty fun but you definitely don't need a winch to get to the top. I drove up in a 94 pathfinder on 32's with only a rear lockright. The pink jeepers like to talk it up for the people riding their tours but in reality it isn't really that bad.

Roger that, I felt the same way when he told me that info, and the day I went, I only saw one jeep tour and that was the prime season(lucky perhaps) there were however lots of ATV users. The views from the trail are wonderful, and are worth the occasional pinky jeep tour. I love my barbie:princess: cruiser:flipoff2: Betsy get's me everywhere.

That first picture with the fj cruiser going down the trail looks like it would be a lot more fun going up.. Nice pics..

I went through there on Christmas Eve. Encountered 8 Jeep tour operators, 3 self guided rental jeeps (together), and 4 "independents" as I call them (people like myself, just going on their own with non rental vehicles) They were a heavily modified Ford Exploder (why??) a YJ Wrangler with a small lift, an old CJ5 and a TRD Taco. I was there between 11am and 1pm and there was not too much traffic.

Anyone have some free time soon that wants to meet up there? The only guys I know here that go off-road are my brother-in-law (suburban) and our bud Charlie (K5... down for new motor). And the only wheeling they do is to the hunting spots LOL.
