Basically a straight shot along I-90 from Bellevue/Issaquah to western Montana (before heading up into the hills) next Wednesday 9/13. Returning on Saturday 9/16 via the same route.

Taking the LX with not a lot of cargo room, but I could be persuaded to haul my little utility trailer or purchase a hitch carrier. In order to maximize fishing time, I can't make long stops or go too far out of the way, but I could coordinate the grocery shopping stop to coincide if that helps.

It's a long shot, but let me know if I can help out.

Good luck fishing! I have a good buddy who's folks still live there. Which rivers or lakes are you going to hit?

Thanks.

Primarily Kelly Creek (technically in Idaho, but easiest access is south over Hoodoo Pass from Superior). Depending on the water and fish, we may end up on the NF Clearwater as well.

I love it there. It's still almost a week away, and I can hardly get any work done today because I keep looking at pictures from past trips.

Well? How'd you do? Catch anything besides a cold? :hillbilly:

Wow. Forgot all about this thread.

Yes. Great trip and great weather. The water level was a bit higher than normal, and there were a lot more fish still in the upper creeks so we stayed up around Kelly Crrek and Moose Creek. It's basically as many 8-10" West Slope Cutts (and the occasional Rainbow) as you want to catch. Over the 2 days, I probably caught 80+.

Once the initial fun of that wears off, the bigger fish are 13-16" and a lot more fun but a lot pickier too. There were a lot of WSCs in spawning colors that were really cool. Probably 20 or so in that size - tons of fun on a 4-weight.

I spent most of the mornings re-learning how to nymph effectively. I must have caught 30 whitefish between 16-18 inches. They fight well and are incredibly fat, but it's just not the same.

In years past, I've seen (and LDR'd) trout up to 22", including the occasional Brookie. I saw a few bigger fish this year, but they were all holding on the bottom of big pools 10-15 feet deep. I'll have to remember my sinking lines next year.

Let me know when. I'll just bring my backpack shocker.
