I am in the beginning phases of building a family cruiser(hopefully the one my son will drive to my funeral) and am building from ground up. My two questions involve seats and frame/body swaps.

1) There is some information that frame body mount points are the same for 60/62 and early 80 series LCs. If this is true I would like to take a primitive 60 body w/ manual windows, door locks, etc. to a 92' 80 series frame complete with coils and brakes. My question is "Is this true? Couldn't find anybody that has done this so didn't know if this could be done.

2) Looking for comfortable seats to replace stock seats. I only drive 12 miles to work everyday, but am involved in long road/camping trips between June/August. Hoping for one with a possible armrest, but really looking for a comfortable ride(other that rebuild the stock seats with new fill)

Didn't know where else to post so any pointers would be welcome.

seats

As for seats, I just put in some mastercraft adjustable seats in the 60. They where a direct bolt in using factory sliders. good luck

Mastercraft

I like those and they look to have cut outs for four point seat belts.

.

I dont know about the body and frame mounts lining up ,but it has been done in the US before. I think it was a by a cruiser restorer in Tennesee and they were selling for $80000:eek:

the mastercraft where almost 600 each. i would say a nut and a half. they do come with the cut outs for the 4 point. i am a restorer in tn and i do not know any one that has done this convertion.

get copies of the FSMs for both and look at the body/frame sections and compare the mounting points. All dimensions for them will be there if needed for straitening a frame.

Folks have posted builds here for putting 40 series bodies on 80 frames ( about 15" of body stretching or frame cutting IIRC) or 55 series bodies on 80 series frames. You can check out the Hardcore section on here or go to the Iron Pig Off Road ( Fredericksburg, Va.) website where they do alot of this. Lance and Luke are your guys there.
Good Luck.
