I'm looking to purchase a 62 with lap belts in the back seat. Is it difficult to install new belts that have a shoulder and lap belt? Thanks. Jim :wrench:

That depends...
The non-retractable kit from $OR is inexpensive and easy, but not stock.
Retrofitting stock retractable shoulder belts in the rear depends on the shell of your particular FJ62 and whether or not you replace the plastic trim pieces that go under the rear quarter windows. I suppose you could just cut your non-shoulder belt trim, but I don't know how that would look.
I did the conversion to mine. I bought the kit from CruiserParts.com. They sent brand new belts and used plastic trim. The nutplates were in the C-pillars already (I checked before I ordered). Those are easy to check for with a needle or dental pick so you don't damage the headliner. I had to drill holes into the wheelwells to attach the belt, the reinforcements were there and dictated where to drill. However, my shell did not have the appropriate space for the reel--I've read that some may have the right cutouts/nutplates, but no shoulder belts. I did minimal cutting and drilled holes to bolt it in place. I still need to weld in a beef up plate where I mounted the reel as I suspect my attachment point is a little weak with only one layer of sheet metal. You'll also need to cut the wheelwell trim piece a little bit, too. It would be good to see an '89 or '90 with belts to see how it was done at the factory.
That's my experience. I'd do it again.
