I took the family up over Medano Pass earlier this week. Was a great trail and largely went well. In one part we ended up a little stuck on a very off camber section. I had the family out of the vehicle and was out myself to assess (and lay some traction boards) and when I went to get back in all of the seatbelts were locked. Once I got things back to level the car beeped and all of the belts seemed to unlock. Any one else experienced this?

I'd add a photo for interest but I'm dumb and didn't' take any.

The locking mechanism is activated either by the car's movement or by the belt's movement.

In car-activated systems, when the car stops suddenly a weighted pendulum swings forward, causing a metal bar to jam into a toothed gear attached to the spool. Unable to unwind any further, the belt holds the passenger tightly in place.

In belt-activated systems, centrifugal force, cause by a sudden jerking of the belt, causes a lever attached to the spool to move outward. The extended lever activates a device that catches the toothed gear attached to the spool, stopping its spinning motion. In both systems, the point is to tighten the belt so that its stopping power is spread across the sturdiest parts of your body.

It might have something to do with the RSCA switch being on. In my owners manual (since I have it out for the day) shows that when RSCA is off the seat belt pretensioner is disabled. Pg 141 & 142 of my 2013 manual.
