Fixing to build a cage with a seat craddle and I'm looking to buy some seats that won't break the bank. Any suggestions?

Couple cheap options I've found:
EMPI RaceTrim

BUY 2 AND SAVE ON OFF-ROAD RACING SEATS - JCWhitney

Anybody around here ever spent much time in these? I have no experience with riding in supension seats so it's ground zero for me.

Thanks!
phil

I've got a pair of the Empis, they're very close to the Corbeaus that a friend runs in his rig and seem to be good quality. You can get them direct from EMPI for a decent price, anyone that's into VWs will know the company pretty well.

Im keeping an eye out too for some seats that are cheap and durable...
More of a race car seat, Summit has some that are a fake leather type thing with adjustable back and slide rails...theyre around 180 bucks a piece, and Kragen also has some similar for 149 a piece.
The first link you posted are a screamin deal...only bad thing IMO is the lack of adjustability.

Jesus, those EMPI's are nice. Figure out how to mount them on the stock rails and you're golden.

I wonder if the tan is a close match for the factory colors:hmm:

Well I'm fixing to find out. After spending sometime reading a couple threads on these seats over on Pirate, I pulled the trigger.

Two of the tan highbacks shipped to my door in Alabama for $275. I didn't feel I could get a better deal on what seems like a quality seat.

From the looks of the pic I think these will match my Paki softtop perfectly. I'll report back when they get here.

Nice...Im curious to find out how you like them. That is a GREAT price! Im just a bit leery about fixed position...

You can buy some universal sliders from him as well. They $60 for the pair with free shipping if you order them with the seats. You can also order kit to allow the passenger seat to slip forward.

This weekend I took the sliders off of my current seats and I'm going to try and fab them to work with the new seats. I'll let you know how it goes.

The one thing I forgot is the EMPIs are being clearanced out since they are no longer producing them, hence the great pricing.

For anyone that my have been interested, here's some shots of one my seats. I don't see any problems making my sliders work with these seats.

DAMN. I was just telling myself I didn't need to spend a bunch of money on my truck anymore.

Those seats look great. Are they comfortable to sit in?

With this type of seat, can you use your stock style seat belt or do you have to have a harness?

EDIT: It seems that you can. This jeep owner did it and since our ( 60 series anyway ) seat belts bolt to the body and not the seat frame, it shouldn't be an issue.

I am not a fan of the Corbeau's that you just posted because of the actual seat height. The "headrest" is about perfect height to hit me at the base of my skull. Not a good thing for head support IMHO. If it was a couple of inches higher, I would not complain..

Then go for the Baja Ultra :D It is taller.

I have a head "pad" on my b-hoop cross that is just above the top of the seat- and right behind my head.

Wasn't aware of that. I have had no problems with them on two seperate occasions, and neither have some of my local wheelin buddies, who have purchase numerous items from them. Both times I dealt with them were after that thread was started.

Apparently I give the worst seat-purchasing advice ever. :meh:
