I'm trying to make a few minor repairs to my new (to me) '99 LC. This is the best LC forum I've found, and I appreciate the quick reply I received to my previous question.

I'm trying to replace the seat back pockets (nets) on my LC. I also need to reattach the leather covering to the bottom of both front seat backs. It seems to me that the easiest way to accomplish this is to remove the seat backs, which I don't know how to do. I don't want to break anything and have to buy more new parts. Has anyone ever replaced these nets and/or removed the seat backs on their Cruiser? I know this is probably less complicated than I'm trying to make it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Don't know for sure on the 100 series - but on my FZJ80 (and 40) you remove two screws at the top, angle out and lift back off. The screws are covered by button snaps - just pop open to reveal screw head. I did this on my 80 recently to fix the netting as well...

What did you do for netting? Mine's saggin pretty bad. I may just take it off completely and forget it.

I bought two new pocket assemblies from a Toyota dealer. They only cost $18 total. They had them for even less (around $7 each) on a few Toyota parts web sites. Now if I can just figure out how to get the old ones off and the new ones on!

Be careful when you take the old ones off - the ring that surrounds the netting has little plastic tabs that stab though a compression washer. You need to cut the tabs to remove (especially if you have a new one anyway) - if you pull hard enough the washer will rip a hole in the fiberboard (ask me how I know :slap:)

Good luck!

Tucker,

If I cut the tabs (with a razor blade?) and then insert the new tabs, will the compression washer accept the new tabs? I'm assuming that the new tabs will simply push the old out and they will fall out of the seat back. Right? Do I need compression washers too? Thanks.
