so i was using the search tool on the forum and all i found about sea foam was with the 2f motor and other carburated motors. my question is does sea foam work as well with a fuel injection motor as it does a carburated one? and do you use it the same way by putting it in to the gas tank and running it? TIA

I wouldn't use Sea Foam in my 62, I use this and it works well:

BG 44K® Power Enhancer®
BG 44K® Power Enhancer® safely, rapidly and thoroughly removes engine deposits in combustion chambers, intake manifolds, ports and on valves. It restores flow in fuel injectors and cleans the entire fuel system. BG 44K® Power Enhancer® improves fuel economy and reduces exhaust emissions. It actually restores that “like new” driveability to an engine’s performance and keeps it running better, longer and more efficiently. Add one can or bottle to fuel tank at fill up. Catalytic converter and oxygen sensor safe. NOTE: After clean-up with BG 44K® Power Enhancer,® regular use of BG Supercharge®II‚ Part No. 202‚ in gasoline engines or BG Diesel Fuel Conditioner with DPL‚ Part No. 2276‚ in diesel engines will prevent deposits from forming in the fuel system and upper engine for maximum driveability and fuel economy.
Part No. 208
Part No. 208A 11 oz. (325 mL) can
12 oz. (355 mL) bottle

Yeah you can use it in your 62. Read the can and follow it. I ran some through a friends Avalon and it improved the idle and throttle response. I sucked some in through the PCV vacuum line and then used some in the tank.

Everyone has their own favorite bottle of snake oil. Sea foam has been around awhile.

I have also heard some good thinks about BG 44K but have not used it myself. Where you get it?

sounds great red cruiser i will do that also thanks alot.

I sea foamed my truck a few weeks before I had my injectors rebuilt. It's certainly a dramatic process, but I didn't see huge HP or mileage improvements.

I pulled the vacume line off of the brake booster, stuck it in the can and let the truck die. Let it sit for a while, then cranked up and went for a drive. Huge puffs of grayish smoke will come out of the tailpipe and make you look like cheech and chong to your neighbors.

If you think seafoam puts out some smoke, you should see what pb blaster does. I was working on a truck for the logging company i do some mech work for and we poured some into the carb to free up a sticking valve, worked like a charm. The truck was a mid 80s 3/4 ton dodge and was backfiring pretty bad after we did the usual tuneup, it had been sitting in the woods for about 3 years. After we ran it for 10-15 minutes after the blaster it was running fine. Ive heard marvel mystery oil works well for that purpose too, or ATF.

It looked like i was doing an enormous burnout, like smoke filling the cab, everything.

Hello all,
First off B&G 44K Fuel System Cleaner is the best product of its type on the market period. I have been a mechanic for many years now and the 44K has helped countless cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc. with drivability problems. It is very very strong (ex. Nissan Maxima injectors cannot take it). It will work for you if this is the problem.
NoCalFJ60- As far as my B&G dealer tells me, as he stops into my shop once a week, it is NOT sold in any stores at least here in NY. It i ssold strictly to mechanics around here. I have seen it on the shelf in another station for sale though but that is rare. It costs the mechanic about $7 per can but the usual retail price is from $19-25 dollars.
Good luck, Graham

hey red cruiser by any chance did the name of the store that carries B&G 44K come to you last night in your sleep?

i saw they had the 44k at the toyota dealer here. they had it front and center on the parts counter. I've had good luck with sea foam and wonder if 44k 3-4xx's better as compared $ 4 $

How about a place to order online? Here's one.

Eventually the name will come to me

Then again, it might not. CarQuest here in CO sells 44K but it can be found at many other parts vendors depending on a given store manager's choice. I've seen it at other parts stores as well, just not at places like Vato Zone, Checker and the like. 44K is exceptionally good for a fixit-in-a-can product but at a price. I wouldn't dismiss Sea Foam as being good for the price, either, and Techron is another very good product priced somewhere in between the above mentioned products. Another good method of cleaning gunk out of the engine is finding a drive that requires sticking your foot in the go pedal for a half hour or so. Some know the method as an Italian Tune Up. Driving from Denver to the Eisenhower Tunnel takes you from 5,000' above sea level to nearly 11,000' in little more than an hour and in a Cruiser it is mostly balls to the wall to keep up with the surrounding traffic. Cleans everything out pretty good including the cat. Rev it up and clean it out!

Sure it'll come to me - CarQuest :D

One problem with this Steve, you have the only 62 I now of that can "keep up with the surrounding traffic." ;)

Aw, shucks but there are many other 3FEs that can scoot surprsingly well and still tractor with the best of them. It's even more fun blowing the doors off of unsuspecting Tahoes, H2s, XTerras and the like on the uphill side of Floyd Hill. Momentum is key though so don't get in my way. :bounce: All the same RC, you have an even better chance at reving it out above 3K rpm for long periods of time which can really help to make 44K type products work even better as they work best as engine temps rise. At least that is what I have heard here when I asked how to get the best out of a gas tank additive designed to eliminate carbon buildup in the compression area of an engine.

I scoot pretty well on the downside of Floyd Hill :D

I am a fan of 44K - after a valve adjust ;) and a can of 44K I gained 10% on my gas mileage.
13-14mpg with 231,000 miles on the truck, I'm happy with the performance.
(I just don't like going uphill for miles upon miles.)

So i got the bg 44k stuff today from Toyota and put it in and can tell a differance. it just feels better all around. it acclerates better idols smother and like i said it just feels better. I am very pleased, thank you red cruiser for telling about this wonderfull product.

(snip)
I'm happy with the performance.

Don't get out of the Front Range then much, eh? :D Actually, the heat generated by going from Denver to the tunnel or Kenosha Pass really does help blow carbon crap out the tail pipe and adding some fuel system cleaner makes the process even more effective.
Let's set those valves again and see if you can see a 20% improvement.

Not in Winter

20% sounds good, let me know and I'll be there with a can of B&G 44K in hand ready to make a run to the Eisenhower Tunnel. :D
