Seems like last week the cruiser energy was flowin my way. First I found what I believe to be a pair of 40 soft top door straps for sale in Jersey. I was pretty psyched, but never seeing them close up, I wasn't sure that they were OEM Toyota.
The color of the buckles and closures were a dead match to the interior parts of earlier 40's though. After a few searches here on mud, they seem to be correct, but the only pictures I recall are a few of Mike Fox's 25. From what I gather they bolt to the jam once you remove the latch and hook to the eyelet threaded into the dash (which I didn't get). Are these OEM? (Jim?) (Kina?) (Beuller?)

Then I scored again. I found an early (60's (Jim?)) tool case in really nice condition. The guy I bought this from bought it from the original owner of the cruiser. It came from New York originally and the seller in Florida whom I purchased from didn't even own a cruiser! He bought it because he thought it looked cool. Thanks to him!

The case I would call an 8, tools 9 to 10. Missing the tire iron, tool #10 (extensions possibly, although the grease gun extensions are wrapped in plastic along with the grease gun), either #12 or #13 (booklet?, have the spark plug tools & bag), and the id card for the clear pocket. Seems like someone in the 25 section is reprinting these? (Again, Jim?) All other tools accounted for and in exceptional condition. One screwdriver and the grease gun are still in original plastic, as are the spark plug gap tools. This is definitely my new favorite piece of cruiser swag, especially the cool spring loaded wrench holder. Thank you cruiser gods!

To top it all off, they both arrived on the same day!

oh so cool :wrench: great find

Josh! Those weren't the straps in NJ Craigslist for the last month or so were they? I figured they were gone or not the real thing. :D

The straps are the ones for use when a hardtop is removed, they weren't from an original softop. They're missing the vertical bars with the eye that would attach to the door hinges. You can tell the difference because the rear mount is a bolt on unit to replace the striker. A soft top mpdel would have an elevated carriage type bolt screwed into the body in the rear and the bracket on the strap would have a large eye in it. So in short, they're worthless, when can I pick them up?

Nice score on the tool roll, it would be the right one for the LV. I'll have to study the pictures later. Just in case you didn't see it: 65 Tool Kit

Glad karma is coming around for folks.....

Jim- yep they are the ones from Jersey. So it sounds like the straps are OEM Toyota but not from a factory soft top vehicle? Sounds like I should call to see if he may have the vertical bars. Thanks for the info and the link. I saw that thread while searching, but still can't tell if I'm missing anything besides the i.d card. In a pic of wesintl's tool kit, it looks like he has some sort of clear pouch slightly larger than the blue one with the spark plug tools.

Let me know if you're free this weekend or one night after work, I could always bring em over for a thorough inspection. Don't worry, I've already drooled on em plenty!

nice score bud
I have a set of straps just like those
they make you feel so much safer

I upgraded mine to nylon.....................soooooooooo much safer than 40 year old cotton canvas.

Josh, I should be around Friday night and Saturday, hit or miss other days.

Looks like you're missing the #3 tire iron (easy to replace) , #10 grease gun nozzle, and an owner's manual. You'll be able to take inventory after I give you a content card that really belongs in a nice original tool kit. ;)

Thanks Jim, that's awesome. I'll call you Fri night or Sat. I'm runnin the raft race on Sat. so maybe I can swing by after that if you're around. #10 grease gun nozzle seems to be still wrapped in the plastic w/ the grease gun.

Thanks Kina! Yeah, they're probably a better fit for a Gaucho.

Josh, here's a picture of a set with the bars, this is what you've got. ;)

Jim- Thanks for that content card and the picture. They don't look that hard to replicate, but I've got a long way to go till I need them. Till then I'll keep my eyes out.

Great bs'n with ya. If ya ever need a couple more hands with something, feel free to call.

one step closer, just need a manual. Had a mint lug wrench layin around from a flea market find a few years back.

so when do you start on the lv?

It all looks like cheap Chinese crap to me. Send it all over to me and I will investigate it throughly.
