ummm...

enjoy?

I guess it is some Uber rare collectable bicycle from the early 70's.

I cared about it as much as he cared about my 1957 Chain Saw.

I was standing there when a guy offered him $1,200 for it and he turned it down. $1,500 was his bottom dollar price.

That looks about as I remember mine. My first real painful bike crash was on a wet sidewalk and was thanks to that damn slick! Oh yes, I can still feel the love for that stick shift when I didn't quite make it up a curb.:crybaby: I am suprised I sired any children!

Thanks for the painful memories!:flipoff2:

Orange Krates and Apple Krates are MUCH more common than some of the other versions.

Try to find a Lemon Krate, Gray Ghost, a Pea Picker, a Coal Krate or a Copper Krate.

There are even a couple of people that believe in the mythical Grape Krate.

HINT: They (Grape Krates) aren't originals, Schwinn made them in 1999 as a limited edition of 1999. But idiots are still trying to find an original.

At one time I had them all (pre 73)and traded them away for a Harley.

Boy I wish I didn't do that....

I still have a nice collection of Schwinns, but only one krate.

Coppertone and Coal Krates were never produced by Schwinn.

They did make the stingray in coppertone.

Those floating around are restorations/ customs.

Schwinn also produced a 20" bike very similar to the krate called the fastback. (available in coppertone)

The fast back debuted in 66 whereas the krate came along in 68.

The fastback could be had with optional "rams horns" bars.

Another I wish I still it had it from my past.......

I had a Fastback, bought new, in red. My best friend had an Orange Krate, also bought new. We ruled the neighborhood, I kept that bike pristine. Several years later after I outgrew mine, we sold it to a friend for their son's birthday, he couldn't tell it wasn't brand new.

Raleigh (I think) made a knock off at thet time with a high back padded sissy bar and ten speed. The shifter was dual and it had a similar front suspension. The gear ratio on these bikes was great - you could haul a__ and go all day comfortably.
