Anyone have any sweet RV park recommendations??

The State Parks at Hunting Island, Edisto, Huntington Beach and Myrtle Beach are a good start if you can get in. I believe they take reservations. Try southsarolinaparks.com.

If you're pulling a cruiser there's a lot of beach access in NC. Carolina Beach and a lot of the OBX comes to mind.

Enjoy.

Well, the RV idea turns out is twice as expensive as flying into Atlanta and renting a car. Double the price and double the driving. We've already seen everything from Boston to VA so that part is useless. Thanks for the RV tips but paying an extra $1500 to have a s***ter within 8 feet of me at all times doesn't seem worth it.

Looking forward to the trip though. Gonna stay in the historic district for 1-2 nights. Will see if you guys are around

Charleston is a great place. Housing is high in places and reasonable in others, just depends on where you want to live. It will still be cheaper than MA just about everywhere. Jobs are hit or miss. Lots of stuff around in Govt and Defense. There are a lot of big companies in the area, Google, Bosch, Blackbaud, and Boeing coming soon. Blackbaud is a really great company to work for and may be inline with your wifes career. Selling booze is always good in Charleston. Charleston is a big drinking town. If you need any info feel free to PM me.

We're there on a Tuesday and a Wednesday. What are the top 5 things to do/see? We'll have a 3 year old with us so late night or fancy restaurant type stuff is out.

I always recommend a trip downtown and to use the Carriage Tours. YOu see more of the city and get more information from the guide steering the horses and carriage alone than you could get in two or three days by yourself wondering around with a city map.

Trip out to Fort Sumter is always fun....visit to Magnolia or Middleton Gardens (Plantations) is fun....going to a beach is fun even though MA has a coastline, it is not the same. LOL Also, we have a Christmas Lights show on James Island in the County Park that is one of the largest and best in the country. You ride through a 3-4 mile path in your own vehicle tuned to an AM station for music...and check out the lights they have set up throughout...also a Santa, fake snow and other things going on at Visitor Center like marshmellow roasting or a steam train ride to see lights as well. Great setup.

What Brock said.

1.) Carriage ride

2.) James Island County Part Festivale of Lights. Great for your 3 year old. They have trails with lights and decorated by local schools with Art work made by the students. Fire pits for roasting Marshmallows and s'mores. Santa, Merry-go-round and Christmas store for shopping.

3.) king Street in Downtowne

4.) market Street (shopping)

5.) Gardens

what kind of food do y'all like? Budget per meal?

Our budget isn't limited on dinners but having a 3 year old terror of a boy limits us to not so great places. I'm in the wine biz so I love good restaurants. With the kid I think we're limited to chains where bad behavior is not too frowned upon.

Plus, looking forward to acting like a blowhard, dumbass Yankee whilst dining at said establishment. I'm gonna set back North/South relations back about 150 years!

BTW, that Xmas thing sounds excellent. There's a guy in my town who does that at his house (he's insanely rich and has been on the Today show for his display) but this sounds great and is 10x the size of the local display. Marshmallows are my kid's favorite thing!

BBQBoy- I'm not gonna tell you when I'm coming but I'm gonna show up at your place and act like an a****** till you figger out who I am. Games are fun. Plus, I love BBQ.

What are some of the best neighborhoods/towns close by to look at/drive thru to check out for places to live? What sections should I stay away from?

We are used to obnoxious tourists....so you will fit in even with the terror kid.....

If you think your neighbors lights are good wait until you see 4 miles of lights with many of them depicting life size objects....and even with movement. You are going to need a towel and go say Hail Mary's after you see these lights cuz you will swear you were just blown and seeing stars.

as for as neighborhoods...depends on the standard of living you are used to and how much you want to spend. Summerville, Hanahan, Goose Creek are good value for product but will increase your commute depending on work location. Summerville District 2 is best schools or were last year but some new schools out that way too as well. Mt Pleasant, Daniel Island upper limits of homes....West Ashley is in between Summerville and Mt Pleasant in prices....James Island is about same as West Ashley but more homes are older as it is built up with most new stuff being in form of condos out near beach. Johns Island is rural but pricey...on the peninsula you will need mob family money to buy.

All depends and their are exceptions in every market area here you just got to do your homework....

My grandparents are off the boat Irish and I'm actually eligible for Irish citizenship. This way if the Civil War starts again I can flee to the Jameson Distillery and protect what's important.

I did live in Southie for 2 years. Even though all my relatives are Irish, it meant nothing. I was seen as more of a yuppie since I didn't grow up there so I might as well have been any nationality. The illegal immigrant Irish in Southie are more frightening than the Mob. They see it as a free trip back home if they steal, rob, or kick the crap out of you. I've seen it a few times in person.

Lost my accent a long time ago. I Sound normal now.

I like apple pie but not sure why you put it in quotes unless it's some secret southern code thing. An oyster is my worst nightmare.

I've never seen grits (no idea what the hell they actually are) and I've never, ever laughed at anything Larry the Cable Guy or Jeff Foxworthy has ever said. Might be a rough transition. Maybe I will stay here......

I don't care if your born in Canada Larry the cable guy live is one funny evening. Even a Yankee could understand. Come on down and visit. Looks like you will fit right in, well maybe stick out like extra tits ona boar hog: but driving a pig we will make allowances.

One thing you quickly learn is we have the worst drivers in the country.

Housing areas:
Tip #1 stay away from North Charleston.

Mt. Pleasant, AKA Mt.Plastic, is over rated and full of snooty people like dbenke on here

West Ashley, AKA West of the Trashly, is ok. You get your moneys worth but has its sketchy parts. been living there my whole life and I love it.

James Island is nice. User to be full of rednecks but now is getting some status.

Daniel Island is another really nice area but you will pay for it.

What do y'all have in mind as far as how much y'all are willing to spend? If I know that then I can point you in the right direction. I also know several great realtors.

As far as you coming to my restaurant. I will mot be there next week. besides I am use to Yankee shenanigans. I already have a Yankee homo working for me. You know how is is? Well he wears black shiny shoes, wears a gold chain, wears a Kenneth Cole watch and has a Coach wallet. Only a Yankee.

Hey, c'mon, now, I grew up in Mt. Pleasant:grinpimp: (So did Ron's wife, by the way) I was here before all the money moved here.:clap: Don't put me in that class.:flipoff2:

back then Snee Farm was the ONLY neighborhood in area unless you count a group of homes in Awendaw....and everyone up there went to the little Red and White on 17 or had to go across the big bridge to shop. LOL

I live in North Charleston and I dont think its that bad...Park Circle is nice..
