In short, Im selling a truck, got an Email via Buy Sell. What do you think? Scam or legit...

"I want to buy it for my wife's birthday as a present. I want to make her a surprise. I want to know your final asking price. I am in Milano, Italy for the moment in a business trip.
To be sure of my straight purchase I will send you full payment in advance from here. We will meet when I come back only for the final documents.
Because time means money and we don't have time to waste here I will do the payment using Western Union so you can take the money in the same day. It fast and secure.
The only details so I can proceed are: your name (so I can know for who money should be available) and also your city and country (so I can know where the money should be send). Waiting for your response so we can move forward."

Craigslist posts warnings about scams offering payment via Western Union, so I would stay clear. Deal face-to-face whenever possible.

All it is is a straight money transfer from one Western Union to another with your name on it - NO ACCOUNT INFO. Who cares then, what can it do to you? there is no risk and as long as you don't give out more then just your town and name, there is nothing that can happen. It is 95% sure a scam of some kind but I say take the money (if it ever shows up) and have fun.

"Idiot proof won't stop a determined idiot".. no reason to give out any personal info to anyone from anywhere for any reason if you don't know who your dealing with.

That's how these things start, with simple questions, then as they bait you further, they slowly get more information. There was a really good story some time ago about how someone turned the tables on one of these scams and lead them along.

Maybe you should take your own advice Fantom - "Idiot proof won't stop a determined idiot".. no reason to give out any personal info to anyone from anywhere for any reason if you don't know who your dealing with.

A persons name and town can be found in the phone book. I think that was the point Fantom was making.

Tell him to wire the money.

Also, tell to visit the restorante milano while he is in Milan and try the sauted dick or whatever. Tell him to say hi to Luigi, the chef there.

See what happens next. Remember, don't do anything before checking here.

Hello Martines Andrew, The truck is still available. I love Milano, If you get a chance try Osteria Del Treno , a nice "osteria" with many foods, its location is between the main railway station and the Piazza della Repubblica. The Price is $9000, if that is too high let me know, we can negotiate. Your wife will look very sexy driving this truck. Nice and clean, very easy to handle. I look forward in doing business with you. I would prefer to do business face to face. Can you wait until your return?

Ciao
Brian

I strung along a Nigerian for a while trying to get him to send me a fake money order for my cruiser. But it never came. There's a whole community of scam-baiters. One guy got as far as getting the scammer to get a tatoo and send him the photo to prove it; another one actually scammed money from the scammer; etc. fun if you have nothing better to do...

got this today from scamer....

"I want to finalize payment from here since I have cash with me. I agree on the price so let me know your full name so I can proceed with payment.
waiting for your email !"

My reply....

Hi Martines Andrew, I have an uncle in Italy that would be willing to meet with you at your hotel, will you be paying in US dollars, or Lire/euros. His name is Guido Sarduchi. Do you have a contact number? For the full price $9000, I would be willing to deliver the truck, what city do you live in?

my next email will be my address
