I came across a complete scam on ebay last week, and I want everyone to know about it. I responded to an auction for a blue 1981 FJ40 in Pasadena, MD - the seller ID was "watkinsdean" (email was watkinsdean56@yahoo.com) and in the email to me, she used Debra Watkins as "her" name. The auction required bidders to become pre-approved, so I contacted the seller. Seller gave a sob story about how her husband died 4 months ago, and she wanted to get rid of the truck quickly. She wanted $5,600 total, and wanted a $2,800 deposit. Meanwhile, the auction on ebay disappeared. Next thing I know, I get an invoice from ebay for the $2,800 deposit (I hadn't even made a bid yet!), asking me to pay their "agent" via MoneyGram, not PayPal. When I sent the email back to ebay for verification, they said it was fake. Never heard from the seller again.
Watch out!
