SC and Oil Inhalation

the fighting seemed more related to Sumotoy's personality than the technical merit of the mod. Makes sense to me. You don't want the PCV valve fighting boost pressure to operate. I was on the fence, but after this plan to do it.

So @Iceaxe , did you do a catch can to get both hoses on the valve cover, or just the one with the pcv valve? Also, what catch can did you use? Thanks for the info, hope your mod helps. I had bought a couple of oil traps for compressed air, but really don't like the looks of them so I'm still trying to decide what to use. My SC and intake had a lot of oil in it so I am all about just catching as much as possible.

Actually, on closer inspection, I think the mod I pointed out doesn't address the issue you had. You had excess venting, but this addresses restricted venting due to backpressure on the PCV valve. Sorry for the confusion.

I'd have to suffer through reading it again but I'm pretty sure this was really an issue for 95-97 because the mod basically changes is to match the later version trucks.

Did you mean this is really an issue for the earlier 93-94 trucks? And that I'm fine on my 97 to leave it stock? Thanks for the clarification.

Yeah, I have the same question....

I'm doing some studying to do a new thread on supercharger PCV. I'll try to report back next week.

DARKNESS, I appreciate the heads up on that thread though. Either way, if that mod can help keep my engine safe, then I'm all for it.

Hi dogfish, I only put a catch can on the PCV line. I'm not sure if it makes sense / worthwhile to put one on the other line. I do plan on rerunning the mountain again to see if the problem returns. I will be surprised if it does... The catch can that I went with was Conceptual Polymer. The owner is a terrific guy, and the product is superb. Untitled 1

Cool, thanks for the info. Looking forward to hearing about an uneventful run up the mountain!

Finished:

PCV System with the TRD Supercharger

I think what may have happened to you is that the PCV valve failed, as you said. It failed open. This let boost into the crank case (under high load) and started blowing a lot more oil than normal out the breather tube. The oil went through the blower, into the engine, and got burned. This reduced power and made a lot of smoke. Also, it lets pressure bleed back pre-supercharger which may have reduced the vacuum to your booster. That's why your brakes worked better after you fixed this.

If this is what's happening, then, obviously a new PCV should fix it. A catch can on the PCV line wouldn't have helped since the oil probably went through the breather tube.

Oil analysis. Then share with your mechanic.

Darkness, thanks. The truck, since replacing the PCV and installing an oil catch can, continues to run well / fine. I do need to send off the Blackstone oil sample still. I'll post the results here.
