Finished building up an FJ 40 with chev 383 fenderwell headers
bolted directly to 3" flowmasters. Sounded like a good idea at the time but is too loud for comfort (neighbors comfort too)

Dont have alot of room but could reduce to 2 1/2 off the header.
like to get the raspyness out of the sound

Any suggestions on muffler (must be offset in and center out configuration)

Thanks

I like magnaflow mufflers....they offer many sizes and configurations....probally gonna be loud too, but not as loud as flowmasters.

My dynomax is pretty quiet unless you jump on it. Still has a nice burble to it though.

I just had my exhaust done... They used a glass pack on mine and I was pleasantly surprised at how quiet it is. I thought it was gonna be way loud, but it's nice.
A low rumble. They ran 2.5 in from the AA headers back, 2 into 1. I've got a vortec in mine.
I really loved the sound of magnaflow. That was my first choice, bit they couldn't fit it.

Go down to 2.5" and run Magnaflow's. Are you running the exhaust all the way back?

Don't worry Chicago, when you hitbthe rev limiter in 4lo and let off it will be nasty loud.

it's proven that loud exhaust leads directly to doing stupid s*** in your rig and breaking or rolling it....try some turbo mufflers on it, quiet and cheap

I have a 5.7 vortec FJ60...with a single 2.5 dual in dual out magnaflow muffler and I'm running the old school ram's horn type manifolds with the exhaust exiting behind the rear tires...its loud to me but there are not that many alternatives. Its the biggest dual in dual out muffler magnaflow makes. Exhaust manifolds are 2.5 and exhaust pipe the same dia. ITs not too loud at idle and part throttle but when you get on the power hard its fairly loud. Even on a 60 there is not that much room for exhasut...I wanted to run dual mufflers but exhaust guy said the above was my best choice and so thats what I'm running right now.

You could look into the Flowmaster Hushpower mufflers.
