Agreed, I had hoped to eat some Johnson Valley dirt at the Hammers someday, looks like I may miss out like I did with Tellico...

Luckily i've been there... but this was before I got in to 4x4. I mostly went out there camping and hiking but also did a little offroading in my buddy's old CJ and K5 blazer.

I missed out on telico and cullowee..... i'm sure there will be others also.

The kicker is, is that there is tons of land out there that could be taken for the military..... why this part??? :frown:

millions of millions of acres of desert between those two...... spent many years crawling all over the deserts of Cali and AZ. This one was special though. I've also been on that marine base which is huge to start with. They don't even use all the land that they have.

Death valley is one of the better for exploring and with the history there. Johnson valley and Calico valley were really the only two with the trail systems.

I guess I can take Johnson Valley off my bucket list :( I was fortunate to have wheeled both ATV and full sized rig at Tellico prior to the closing, I miss having something so good so close.

The government is going to do what it wants. They "allow" us to protest but as evidenced by Tellico, they are going to do what they want in any case. We off roaders are way down on the list for sure. I think that it won't be long until all off road destinations will be private owned and no federal land will be included. A shame for sure.
