Has anyone swapped a h55f into a bj74

Hello
I have a bj74 that has a broken a440f. I have a h55f and all components from a bj60 that are not being used right now. Have any of you ever swapped a h55f 5 speed into a bj74? would the clutch pedal and cylinder assembly from a bj60 fit into a bj74? what kind of mods would the tranny mount require?
Thanks in advance

A couple things that come to mind.

The RHD BJ7*s that come from Japan have a unique clutch booster that sitting inside the firewall to avoid interference with the turbo which is on the engine side. You might want to go boosterless using a clutch master from a 80-83 BJ60 or similar.

I have the pedal hangers from a Canadian spec BJ70 if you need them.

Thanks for the reply.
I have pedal hangers from a 1983 bj60, and the clutch master. Would the pedals from a 60 swap over?
Do you have any idea how much fabrication would be involved with the tranny mounts? would the drive shafts have to be altered?

hmmm
maybe i should just get the a440f fixed. Its my parents. THey didn't know the OD rule, and they overheated it on the coquihalla, they made it home and drove it for a least another year on the farm and surrounding mountains. One day my dad was on the range and while driving home it stopped.

The problem is that no one knows how to fix this thing. We had the torque converter shipped to van and rebuilt. Now its in vernon in the tranny shop. Everytime they put it back together they can only limp it around the yard. Anyways who knows these trannies?
let me know
cheers

Yes I did this exact project.

Two ways to fix this:
Option 1
1) You need new driveshafts, need to move the cross-member, and only BJ70 pedal hangers will fit the firewall without heavy modifications. Added to which, if you are using Cdn BJ70 pedal hangers, then you need to use a Cdn clutch booster because the JDM one won't work with the Cdn and vice-versa

Option 2
2) I have a torque converter from a 1985 BJ74 for $400. I sold the tranny to an HZJ74 guy and he didn't the want the torque converter as it wouldn't fit his input shaft.

PM me if interested,
Craig.

hi Craig
Thanks for the reply
Well i think i'm going to stick with the auto. I started another thread about good shops to get it fixed. The one where it is now the guys are completely lost. The torque converter was rebuilt so it should fine. I think they are just having trouble getting it back together. Do you know anyone who has experience with fixing a440f? I stopped by radd cruisers in Duncan once a while back and he said that these transmissions are really sensitive to with there placement back on the engine... any info helps
cheers

I've never had mine apart, just pulled it and put it on a shelf.

Sorry, I don't know any shops that would do it in your area.

I trust Proactive Automotive here in Calgary, Mike has lots of experience with these (I think).

Craig.

What year is the BJ74 (red block or blue block) ?
What year is the BJ60 (cast iron bell housing aluminum bell housing) ?
The red block 3B and the red block 13BT have the same crank to flywheel bolt pattern the blue block 13BT has a complete different bolt pattern can't use the 3B flywheel.
