badluck this morning. After some hesitation then slippage (lack ok oil) I quickly realized I was a new victim of SMOD. There is not much oil on the transmission dipstick, but the coolant overflow tank is filled with transmission oil (and spilled in the engine bay) after changing the radiator and doing a few transmission flush, What are my realistic chances that the transmission survive? 2003 sequoia with 356000 km thanks

if you caught it quick pretty good, multiple flushes will be your friend. ive seen the trans coolers go in tacos and 4runners and their no worse for the ware when caught in time. Toyota makes a pretty stout trans so odds are in your favor. youll also want to start replacing the coolant lines once the cooling system is clean as the hoses cas start to swell and get soft due to the trans fluid contamination

All I know is that my welder guy had the same problem with his 4runner. That made me park mine and replace the radiator.

His effort at repair after doing what you did was to have the transmission shop change the fluid about four times. In the end he had to have the transmission rebuilt. Hopefully you will get lucky.

Change all the hoses, they should be cracked and leaking at that mileage, and while you are doing that install a separate transmission oil cooler. Keeping the fluids separate totally eliminates the milkshake problem from happening again.

I will do that for sure. I drove 2 miles on it. no overheat. I was hoping a few in here managed to save the transmission.
