Great find and nice work..............

So glad this rig did not get chopped up. I recently rode in a 350 V8 Equipped '76 FJ40 and I must admit I was impressed with the power on the road, but NO I am never going to chop mine up..........................

Congrats, can't believe how well that rig cleaned up.

i started hitting the frame and underbody with some brass brushes to knock off the dry stuff and some surface rust. the frame still has a bunch of oem paint on it and the seams all look solid with minor surface rust vs crusty-rusties.

yes- f.5 is real smooth. clutch is probably on its last leg- but it may be the MC....need to pm all that. there was a vibe in the rear around 40mph but i ordered some axle shims from George to correct driveshaft angle. exhaust from header back was recently redone and sounds great.

missing oem items thus far are :

- both running boards.
- seats
- bows and top
- apron emblems
- radio or delete plate
- door straps and eyebolts
- upper bed/ bow retainer/holddown. ( i will probably fabricate these to oem spec)

if anyone is selling or sees stuff- im interested in keeping this old girl as oem as possible.
Great find! I have some eye bolts for the door straps from my old 66 FST. I have no use for them sadly. PM me your address. I'll go see if I can dig them up.

Glad it went to a good home.
A few months back a made a few offers on the rig that they did not accept which I'm sure we're more than what they finally settled on.
Looks like a great survivor!!

Found them! Is this the correct style? Guessing they only came in one variation?

These are too large for a 74. They will fit but correct for the year. Think it was 71 when they got smaller and the wheel well bracket for the rear bow changed from four bolts to mount to just two.

The rings look to be the same size as my '70 and the mount in the rear corner for the bow has only two bolts. March '70 build date.

i loosened up the windshield frame today after a few days of pblaster on the windshield hinges and they freed up.

I found 2 nickels and a penny as well as something im not recognizing with a number "2" on it. (looks like a valve lash tool)

the rubber was in good shape and came out in one piece/ not cracked. there was some light surface rust and a bit of grime that came out real easy with the stainless brush. i hit the surface rust with a touch of this phosphorus/ tannic acid rust converter to halt the surface crust.

question: were the rubbers glued in place from the factory or just laid in the channel ???

On my 76 CJ5, the windshield gasket was just laid in there (as far as I recall), but it is recommended at they be secured with some 3mm double sided tape to keep them from de-forming. Definitely something that you'll want to do if you go with a replacement gasket.

Pretty sure that is one piece of the set of tools used to remove a DIN style stereo from the mounting bracket. They would slide in beside the stereo on either side, allow the head unit to slide out of the mounting bracket.
